Lateral Thinking 4
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A kidnapper sent a ransom note. He prepared it carefully and ensured that it contained no fingerprints. Yet it was used to prove his guilt. How?
Answer
The police were able to get a DNA trace from the saliva on the back of the stamp. This matched the suspect's DNA.Hide Answer Show Answer

Don't like this teaser. Too much unknown information. He could have signed it. Could have put his return address label on it. We are not told he licked the envelope (could have used a sponge).
you're supposed to have someone know the answer.. and then u ask yes or no questions to figure out the answer... of course you're not supposed to know a lot of info anyway
I agree with shogun. This was a very good lateral thinking (Situation) teaser. If you see the description of a situation teaser, it says: Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.
how many people lick stamps anymore? most stamps are just peel and stick. this is an old teaser and was easy at that time.
I didn't like it too much. What kind of killer licks the stamp?
y'all are just hatin'
Sorry shogun but I didn't like this either.

Yes, that is what the situation teasers are supposed to be about- " Asked in a setting" then figured out as a whole....
QM missed this one I fear.....Liked the teaser tough man-- pretty fun!!

finally some good stuff
Most people don't use licker stamps anymore. ESPECIALLY a killer.
yea.. well this happened in the old days of criminality..
i liked this one. but i dont think a killer would let himself be caught that easy
Don't people know how to read anymore? Where does the teaser say ANYTHING about a KILLER? A kidnapper is not necessarily a killer. Too many folks have been watching WAAAAYYYY too much CSI! I was going to be critical until a read some of these other comments - give the guy a break, folks- it's just a teaser!
thats why you need to pay attention in science class!
i would have used a glue stick.
i would have used a glue stick.
He would have used glue. Or leftover rice.
And aren't stamps are for envelopes? Why would a kidnapper send notes on envelopes? He would have been easier to be traced out. It is because he's just that imbecile to forget that he's a kidnapper? Maybe.
But I like it! Better than the fifth episode. ((This is the fourth, right?))

i liked it...but it think you could do better. also, it never said that there was a stamp, or if the note was even in an envelope. the kidnapper could have just left it in the mailbox or something.
it's not supposed to say much detail because.. it's a situation puzzle
"Situation" teasers are just that... you are supposed to be given a set of clues which are not clear until you reveal the SITUATION. Then the answer becomes obvious as the clues perfectly fit that situation. The problem with a majority of so called situation teasers on this site is that there is no situation - there is just a set of clues with a random answer. Many different answers would be equally correct. In a proper situation teaser, it becomes obvious that the situation leads to just one answer!
Kind of easy...... I think it's way to obvious. I NEED TO HEAR A BETTER ONE!!!!
