Mothballs are a chemical, actually shaped into small balls, that you put in with stored clothing and linens to keep moths from eating holes in them. "Bawls" is a word used to indicate crying. So "cry cry cry" is "bawls" and the two together is mothballs. I didn't figure it out without the answer.
