Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
There once was a small family named Smith. The father had to work all day, and often the mother took her kids with her to go grocery shopping on the weekends. One winter day in the middle of December, it was once again a weekend and Mrs. Smith once again had to go grocery shopping. But this time, the oldest child David (who was twelve), decided that he was old enough to stay home with the younger kids: a 3-year-old (Tim) and a 4-year-old (Jane). Anyway, Mrs. Smith agreed and went out shopping without them. The whole time, she worried and worried about her kids at home alone and finally rushed home as fast as she could. When she got home, she found her kids safe and relatively happy. She also found a whole bunch of smudgy fingerprints all over the glass windows! Mrs. Smith was not very happy about this and accused David of making them.
"I didn't do it, Mom, I swear! It was the younger kids!" David said. Unfortunately for him, his mom was no fool and had proof that he had made the smudges. What proof did she have?

Hint
Think about the age differences between David and Tim and Jane.Answer
Mrs. Smith looked carefully at the smudges and concluded that Tim and Jane couldn't have made them because they were too high up! David confessed that he had been looking outside, and his breath had fogged up the glass. He thought it would be fun to make pictures in the fog, and he did, leaving smudgy fingerprints behind. Needless to say, David was grounded for lying to his mom.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

cleverly written, though i have heard this one enough to already have known the answer... its still fun to hear once in awhile!!!
I said it was because the fingerprints were to big to be the little kids'.
Good teaser mind you.
Good teaser mind you.
Cute! And I actually got it right, which makes it even better.
i got it! well i also tut it waz wat quickg said but good teaser!
Nice. I like the answer, although I think my answer of fingerprints being too large or not matching their fingers (uniqueness of the human finger print) would also work.
I got it wrong. I thought it had to do with being winter
I got it but the hint gave it away. (I got it before the hint)
It would be reasonable to assume the bad guys in this situation. The size or height would devulge the bandits. A decent teaser.
Too easy. Also, i have a feeling that one of the characers in this is supposed to be you. ;)

But couldn't the younger kids stand on a chair, or window seat, or something?
I personelly thought it was that the fingerprints were too big for the younger ones.

i did too! hah oh well still good teaser! =)
I had that they were too big and they were too high up.
The mom needs to chill, who gets real angry because of a few fingerprints?

Yay!! i got this one without the hint...and i agree with KiraKaty.
I thought it was size difference as well.
This lady is a pretty harsh mother. Her 12 year old child keeps the little ones safe and happy, as promised, no mean feat. Instead of praising him she complains that he smudged the window! and ends up grounding him. I predict that's the last time he tries to take responsibility to help his mother when he doesn't have to.
I know it's only a puzzle but can't we have the nice person rather than the uptight one be the victor?
