Three Shots
You are being held captive 60 ft. underground. Your two guards bring you into a room that has a spinning sphere. The sphere is revolving along with rotating. Your guards give you a gun and say, "With three shots, we want you to put three impacts onto the surface of one half of the sphere. If you do that, then we will release you." What could you do to ensure your escape?
Answer
All you really need to do is to make sure that you hit the sphere three times. If you do that, your shots will always be on the same half of the sphere. This is because 3 points define a plane, and a plane bisects the sphere into hemispheres.
Another possibility would be to shoot the guards.

LOL I must be stupid but I don't understand the explanation of the first one. I did, though, think immediately of "kill the guards - duh"

basically, any three point on a sphere could be on the same hemisphere. Think of it this way, you could take any three cities on a globe, and then cut off half the globe and keep the cities on the same half.

Just wait for the sphere to pass overhead, then fire. All three shots will be on the bottom half of the sphere.
