Behead A

Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.

When you behead a word, you remove the first letter and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first.
Example: Begin -> Sour, acidic
Answer: The words are Start and Tart.

1. Time past -> Leave
2. Street -> Event location
3. Ends "Our Father" -> Fathers
4. Shared an opinion -> Excessive desire for something
5. Misuses; harms -> Multi-passenger vehicles
6. Pursue lofty goal -> Pointed tower top
7. Sum total -> Climb on
8. Stay away from -> A gap; empty

I don't like 'shared an opinion' as the definition for 'agreed', but I can see it. Personally, I thought 'opined' and 'pined' would have been a better answer, but that doesn't start with 'a' and the definition of 'pined' would also have to be in the past tense.

Sunnybonghits, I think "shared an opinion" works for agreed. If two people share an opinion, then they agree, at least on that one point.

Abuses/Buses took me a few seconds - I wasn't looking at a plural, even though the clue clearly indicates one and couldn't get bus/abus or van/avan (yes I kow neither of those are words) to work but got is as soon as I reread the question.
I needed the hint for aspire / spire as well.
In genearl I like these behead teasers, but they have been being used a lot when there are so many other teasers that could be used that no one has ever seen.

I got all but one pretty quickly - couldn't come up with #4. Excellent teaser - I enjoyed it very much.
