When you curtail a word, you remove the last letter and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first.
Example: Begin -> Heavenly body
Answer: The words are Start and Star.

1. To look for -> To perceive
2. Use the mind -> Slender, narrow
3. Enclosed army vehicle -> A colour; darkening of the skin
4. A colour -> Thin, pointed piece of metal
5. Tree covering -> Metal rod
6. Timber; board -> Design; a scheme developed in advance
7. Bare, plain; blunt -> Celestial night light
8. Descended in water -> Celestial night light with orbiting planets

Feb 18, 2011

Easy, but fun to do.
Feb 18, 2011

made me think. very good teaser!

Very good. Almost like a crossword puzzle without the formatting.I find teasers and quizzes from the daily RSS feed, and today I hated the quiz but I love this teaser! I give a 10/10 for quality, creativity, and fun value. Although it is not hard, it is still one of my top favorites. I shall add this to my favorites as soon as I finish this review. I love this quiz! You should make another like this!
Feb 18, 2011

Easy, but a lot of fun. More, please.

If you enjoyed this, I've already made a whole series of these teasers.

To Illusionist: the quiz of the day was mine too; at least you enjoyed the teaser.
Feb 18, 2011

That was fun; I only missed the bar/bark one.

Feb 19, 2011

easy, but I loved it! Didn't get the clue (k) until I'd already gotten all the answers! lol

To MarcM1098 (The creator): I still very much like the teaser, but no hard feelings about the quiz, just not my favorite. Still a good quiz, just not my type...
Feb 18, 2014

It was a fairly easy one until I got to "stark" I got star, but not stark. I did not know that word. Otherwise easy and fun! Happy birthday to me. 91 today.

A couple of quibbles: 1) This teaser might have been more interesting/challenging if each curtailent had not involved the same letter of the alphabet, "k;" 2) The past tense of the verb "to sink" is "sank," not "sunk;" "sunk" the past participle. But preserving that distinction would have spoiled that particular puzzle item. But how about "poor in quality," and "word play," for which the answer would have been "punk/pun." Meanwhile, congrats to Babe on his/her 91st birthday.
Feb 18, 2014

That word should be "curtailment."
Feb 18, 2014

And the sentence should read, ",,,sunk is the past participle."

lukasiwicz if you search the rest of Marc's teasers you will find in addition to curtail puzzles for each letter of the alphabet, he also has a number of them in which the letter to remove is different for each word.
Happy Birthday Babe!
