Which is the odd couple? Find how these pairs were formed, then decide which does not belong with the other four.

1. HIS and MIST

2. LUSH and PULP

4. WIDE and NINE

5. HIKE and SEED

The original couples, before the exchange of a letter, were:
1. HIT and MISS
2. PUSH and PULL
4. WINE and DINE
5. HIDE and SEEK

The odd couple is 'WINE and DINE'. All the others are antonym pairs.

i figured it out but it took me a while
Jul 17, 2010

Well done. It's a lot better to persevere, isn't it! I'm often annoyed when I check the answers ... and know I'd have got an answer with just a little more effort!
Jul 17, 2010

GOOD FUN HERE, it took me a little while to get the first one, but then it moved along quickly.
Jul 17, 2010

I loved it! Very clever!!! You stumped me!
Jul 17, 2010

Took a little thought, but interesting.
Jul 17, 2010

good one!
Jul 17, 2010

needed the hint to get started!
Jul 17, 2010

Good one! I got them all but #3 took a bit of thinking. Thanks for posting!
Jul 17, 2010

What a clever idea! I got the pairs figured out, but gave up on which one doesn't belong. It was refreshing to have a different kind of teaser.
Jul 17, 2010

That was a toughie.
Jul 19, 2010

I thought it was LOFT and SOUND
because the answer was soft and lound and lound was misspelled loud. oh well
Jul 17, 2013

Now that was a good and fun teaser. Not too easy, yet not too hard. Thanks for that one!
Jul 17, 2013

Wasn't sure about this one until I got to #4. Figured the rest out from there. Nice teaser.
Jul 17, 2013

There's a much simpler answer, number 5 doesn't belong because the first vowel doesn't match.
Jul 17, 2013

I liked this one, too - thanks for posting!
Jul 17, 2013

@asupmdr: ...and no. 3 doesn't belong because the second word has five letters, and no. 1 doesn't belong because the first word has three letters.

Why would you be asked to determine the way the pairs are formed if it had nothing to do with which is the odd one out?
Jul 17, 2013

i thought this was a great teaser, although i did get it wrong, because i changed the wrong letter in 3, the words do seem to have other links. maybe next time you should give an obscure clue in the actual teaser as to what links them
Jul 17, 2016

nicely done

...and #4 is the only one with both words ending in vowels & #5 where one ends in a vowel and one in a consonant - these are not "simpler solutions" but simplistic and I wouldn't consider them worthy of a Braingle space!
