nice job!
Clever, although I have never seen Lin with this spelling. I am familiar w/ Lynn.
Yeah, I agree. The second clue does give it away. Great teaser!
I'm English so didn't have a clue
Well, there's another way of looking at this puzzle -- Diana is the only name for which either the first 2 or the last 2 letters of the name do not constitute the 2-letter postal code for one of the 50 United States, to wit: Last 2 letters of Eva = VA, for Virginia; last 2 letters of Sophia = IA, for Iowa; first 2 letters of Carol = CA, for California, last 2 letters of Lin = IN, for Indiana, and the first 2 letters of Mary = MA, for Massachusetts. I submit, therefore, that this puzzle has 2 correct answers, and I suspect that the puzzle constructor was unaware of the alternative answer, Diana.
Very original teaser!
There is a third answer, the obvious one of Eva - since that is the only name that doesn't start with a consonant.

Too many possible answers!!!
The hint helped but not enough to help me solve it. Good teaser. Thanks for posting.
A little too esoteric for me.

The funny thing is I had the correct answer for the wrong reason. Only Sophia didn't sound like an All-American Girl's name.
good one. you got me again!
I'm with auntiesis - I chose Sophia because it didn't sound as All American as the others!
Lin is the odd one out, as it's the only name without an "A" in it....
Cheers......
Cheers......
I was on the right track but couldn't quite nail it!
DINAH Shore was a singer and a television personality

There were a lot of possible answers for this one... I am not very familiar with the name Lin, but it was still a good teaser nonetheless. Keep up the good work!
I also came up with alternate answers to this one.
I found another odd one out: Lin is the only single syllable name. the rest have either 2 or 3 syllables. SNAPPPPPP!!!!!!
Difficult if you're not from the states.
Writing "Odd-One-Outs" is always a risk as people invariably find alternative solutions. I have three thoughts:
1. "So what?" Who ever said a teaser has to have a unique solution? Part of the fun can be suggesting an alternative. In fact, some of the alternatives were written by people who also enjoyed the teaser.
2. Most of the alternatives listed here above are quite trivial or random, although creative!
* Sophia is the only one who starts with a letter in the second half of the alphabet
* Mary is the only one who ends in a y
etc etc
However, it is good to see that most of the Braingle community takes these in the spirit they are intended: fun, but with intellectual integrity. I think this one stands up OK by those criteria.
