American phonetics uses a soft s /s/ for cease (actually two /s/'s!) and a hard s /z/ for tease.

No cognitvely intact adult should be patting him/herself on the back too much for solving this teaser, which was easy to the point of being like being the first player to move in a game of tic-tac-toe on a 2 X 2 matrix.
