Brain Teasers
Twelve, Twelve, and Thirteen?
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
On my 12th birthday, my dad took me to see his friends at work. One of them gave me 12 pencils and another gave me 12 quarters (adding up to $3). Another one - my dad's favorite employee, gave me 13 cookies.
What was my dad's favorite employee's job?
And, knowing that all the employees worked in the same building, what were the jobs of the person that gave me pencils and the person that gave me money?

Hint
12 is a dozen!Answer
My dad's favorite employee's job is a chef/baker. He gave me 13 cookies because 13 is a baker's dozen. The job of the person who gave me pencils is the waiter and the one who gave me quarters is the cashier.
My dad, the manager, works at a restaurant, diner, or bakery - whatever you may call it.

baker's dozen? First time I hear about it
I got it straight away because I knew what a Baker's dozen is. In medieval England, a merchant could be imprisoned if he sold under-weight goods so bakers used to give 13 loaves (or rolls or whatever) so that they would never be selling under weight bread!
Yep and great for you.
Interesting Marple
Nice teaser

Good teaser. Figured it out but of course it was knowing what a baker's dozen is that cinched it.
I figured out the bakers dozen but for someone reason couldn't think of a person who would give pencils at a restaurant really fun tho!
I got the baker's dozen but thought the friend with the pencils was the bakery's accountant! Nice teaser.
I liked the teaser.
Nice one. That's interesting Marple. I did not get the answer... But, like all other teasers, when I clicked 'Show Answer,' It was suddenly obvious. I think this should be in the trick section in fact. GREAT WORK!!

Yea... if it weren't cookies (i.e books, papers) it wouldn't be a baker.
If not quarters (or coins) then not a cashier...
If not pencils, not a waiter...
Kind of: duh, or else this wouldn't be a good teaser.
Gosh =_=

Awesome! When I saw the hint 'dozen' I went 'Ohh! It should have been obvious'
Duh! Not very fun.
Glad I know what a baker's dozen is! Unfortunately I didn't figure out the waiter, but I figured out the cashier! ^^
