This is my first brainteaser.
Nice brainteaser!
I was thinking of subtracting 3 to each number, since when you subtract 3 to 1, you get -8, but I saw no negative sign.

Nice teaser! I thought the pattern was -3 then +7....
7-3=4
4-3=1
1+7=8
8-3=5
5-3=2
7-3=4
4-3=1
1+7=8
8-3=5
5-3=2
Great teaser but I didn't have a keyboard in front of me since I did it on my iPad
I did it as Seven has 5 letters.
The next has 4 then 3.
Then i started again at Eight with 5 letters.
And so you would need another number with 3 letters, so i got TWO.
Its a sequence of 5-4-3, 5-4-3.

Interesting observation dancingrobots
I got it right, but I was going 'up' on my phone instead of 'down' on the keyboard...
I got it the same way as Demon. Good job. Fun but easy.

i got it right and yeh it was fun but easy
I have a laptop (which means 0 key pad)
mine ws a diff approach...dint any1 notice that the numbers in the series are those of the units place digits dat occur in the 7's table
In another way :
7 - 3 = 4
4 - 3 = 1
Now just imagine the numbers from 0 to 9 as a chain circle, so 0-1=9 and 4 - 7 = 7.
Then :
1 - 3 = 8
8 - 3 = 5
5 - 3 = 2
7 - 3 = 4
4 - 3 = 1
Now just imagine the numbers from 0 to 9 as a chain circle, so 0-1=9 and 4 - 7 = 7.
Then :
1 - 3 = 8
8 - 3 = 5
5 - 3 = 2
Well, I'm on a laptop. Got it anyway...thought about what a computer keyboard would look like.
On most keypads, 0 is directly below 1 (as a double-width key), so you could introduce 0 into the series to make it a little harder and throw off the mathematical reasoning.
7, 4, 1, 0, 8, 5, ...
7, 4, 1, 0, 8, 5, ...
