With opposing forces you will collide
Your goal is to get to the other side
To defeat your opponent you must pass him by
To do so, your strength must in strategy lie
The points number as the hours of the day
But are not collected in any way
The bar is a good place, one might think
But no one there partakes in a drink
In fact, it is the worst place to be
A visit there hinders your victory
Some hits you may sustain in battle
Let not such your composure rattle
In reverse directions your courses are bound
Your movements restricted by spots that are found
Before the victory cry may you shout
You have to get in, before you get out

What's going on?

Great puzzle! I had to look at the answer. My husband was sitting next to me focused on his computer - playing backgammon. How perfect! I read him the poem and he figured it out before I was finished. Thanks for the well done poem and riddle!

You can only get the answer if you play backgammon - which I don't!
