Well written
You had to know something about airplanes and bowling to answer a couple of these. Where is everybody? Only 2 of us so far.
I'm here. Got half of them right.
Enjoy the long weekend my US friends.

That was harder than it looked. Only got one.
vale?? to express farewell??
Vale is not "a way to say goodbye". According to Dictionary.com a VALE is a valley! Get your definitions right or the game isn't fair.

wordworker and raisin99, the puzzle clue specifies "ancient way of saying goodbye," and "vale" (pronounced, roughly, "valay," not like the English word "vale," which is pronounced "vail," is indeed the Latin (ancient language) word for "farewell." This little puzzle is by no means unfair, but does require some specialized knowledge of terms from aeronautics, bowling, and Latin.
Well, maybe a little unfair. I see I was mistaken when I said the puzzle clue specified "ancient way of saying farewell." It doesn't, and perhaps it should have. My bad.
Also, classically, the "V" of "vale" is pronounced "w,", so that the word becomes "walay," with the accent on the first syllable.
The first three deletions were easy but VALUE to VALE was a tough one .
