During summer vacation, four children, Alex, Belinda, Eric, and the eldest child, spend their days at the beach. One day at lunch their mother asks: 'Did anyone go surfing this morning?'

The eldest child answers:

I wasn't paying very close attention to the others, but I think Alex and Belinda weren't together.

However, if Alex did go surfing, it wasn't alone.

If Eric surfed, Alex and Belinda were with him.

Who went surfing?

Why can't Belinda have gone surfing, with
or without the eldest child?
Why must the eldest child have gone surfing?
Why can't Alex have gone surfing with the
eldest child?
