Cannot be Seen
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
It cannot be seen,
cannot be felt,
cannot be heard,
cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
and empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
ends life, kills laughter.

| Darkness, scientifically speaking, can't actually be seen. Since light allows you to see things, and you can only see things if there's light, then darkness is the absence of being able to see things, which makes darkness pretty much our closest equivalent to nothingness.
I got this teaser right away because I've made up a bad guy named the Silencer, and you can't feel, see, hear, sense, or smell him.
But a good riddle nonetheless! |

| I understand how silence can end life (i.e. silent but deadly) but how can you say it can't be smelt?!
