| where do you get the "seasons" part from? salt and pepper are "seasonings" not "seasons"! So really the correct answer would be "seasonings Greetings" which is a bit naff. Perhaps you should have used "Summer" and Winter" they are seasons! |

| Mad-Ade, you really need to cool down. It's a simple brain teaser, not calculus - little things can slide a bit. Great teaser though, it makes PERFECT SENSE TO ME. |

| I never said anything nasty, I simply asked a question, I couldn't work out how the submitter got "seasons" and "seasonings" mixed up. Is it a crime to ask for something to be clarified? As yet no one has offered an expaination, but instead have choosen to turn on me for asking a question? Now who really is being negative, I simply asked a question, your imaginations made into something it wasn't! |

| madade I did actually think of that after I had submitted the teaser, but it seemed to go down alright anyway so I didn't worry much about it. |

| Spicey Conversation came to my mind .. I know salt is not a spice but oh well .. guess I was on the wrong path p.s. dictionary does give a definition for season as something that seasons so salt and pepper could correctly be called seasons as well as seasonings .. Isn't the English language wonderful! cute little teaser (but not a teasering) |

| i got it just because the brain works that way, but here's a possible explanation:
salt seasons food...and pepper seasons food and their respective greetings yield seasons greetings.
[btw, yes salt is a seasoning. if you wanna be technical it's sodium chloride, an inorganic diatomic molecule. one atom Na (sodium) one atom Cl (chlorine).] |

| I drew a total blank. Once I saw the answer, the light bulb went on and I got it. When Iwent back and read all the old comments I couldn't believe the uproar over seasons and seasonings. It's a cute rebus and the submitter has a right to be proud. Good job. |

Sep 18, 2006
| Didn't get it, and thought it was my own fault ... unless maybe it's because of the whole seasons/seasonings fiasco! yeah!
Okay maybe not. I'm fine with admitting that I was had. Grudglingly! (Haha, what a fun sounding typo for grudgingly! I'm gonna leave it there!) |
OldChinaHand
Sep 18, 2006
| WHY ARE THE DATES ON THE RESONCES SO OLD?
Maybe RESONCES are best when they are served old, what ever RESONCES are. Good teaser, iMur.
As for 'seasoning greetings', it would be different, but still it would get the point across, unlike many of the above responders. This teaser was fine and a good thought as well. Thanks. |

| WOW!!! You got quite a response from your teaser. I personally thought it was wonderful. I got it right away. Any teaser I solve is a friend of mine.
BTW, I agree with the people who have stated that salt and pepper do season food; therefore, when they say "good morning" and "hello" they are emitting season greetings. That is just so cute!!! |

| I really enjoyed this teaser. I got the answer right away--but that's the kind I like. I didn't even think about season or seasonings or whether or not salt is a seasoning.
But I looked up the word "season" in the children's dictionary in our school's second grade room. One of the 4 definitions was "to add flavor to food with herbs, salt, or spices." |

| The resurrection of a venerable and very popular rebus. I truly think Mad Ade was right, strictly speaking -- salt and pepper are seasonings, not seasons -- but you use them to season with, which seems to me close enough. If you come up with seasoning on your first try, it's clear all you need to do is lop off those -ings to get the correct answer. At least, this is the loose, permissive approach. Others will almost certainly disagree, which explains why this rebus has so many comments. |

Earlier ths week I ask for a vote on whether I should leave this site as some of you who hate my honest opinions have suggested. After the vote on this site and all the private messages I received, I will still be around. The vote was over 90% to stay. Thank you all and especially the the ones that took their time to write the wonderful letters I received. And to the ones that hate,I guess you can keek on hating me because I will still give my honest opinions even if it hurts ones feelings. THAT IS WHAT A COMMENT COLUMN IS ALL ABOUT. |

| I thought this was a good teaser. I thought a teaser was supposed to get you thinking. I don't think the words have to be exact. I think when you say the whole thing, your brain starts to pick out sounds until you get something that you can match to a phrase. I seem to remember rebuses (?) that didn't have words that sounded exactly like what the answer was.
And, I think the public in general thinks of mustard, mayo, spices, and salt and pepper as condiments. Admittedly, a loose interpretation, but it is ok.
But, that is just me... |

Sep 18, 2012
| I enjoyed this teaser, got it pretty easily; as with others, I dd not really think too much about the seasons/seasonings issue. Sure salt and pepper are seasonings but obviously that didn't make a whole lot of sense. We are all entitled to our own opinions on things, but for those who criticize all the time and think it is easy to come up with an interesting and original quiz or teaser - try it it isn't. I used to think so myself, until I started to write them). It isn't. |
