| not bad. What is up with the "this is offensive" notations on everyone's comments?????? |
solidgordy
Oct 19, 2005
| I liked this, it was very hard,, especially "I can make a difference by a hand shake." I just didn't understand that line, but I'm not making excuses (soap still does come in bars, and I still use a bar of soap). I don't know how I would ever have thought of soap. Btw, the guy above: PENCIL is good! Pencil does so work, it works perfectly well with all four clues, good work, both of ya! |

Oct 19, 2005
| Most Excellent! |

| Nice one. I was thinking more along the lines of "the common cold" but it didn't quite fit the "older I get the smaller I am" part. Regardless, I didn't get it right... |

Oct 19, 2005
| This is really good! Excellent timing, too, considering all the colds going around (or is just here where I'm living?). Soap's a good defense against that common enemy. Anyway, glad to give my foggy brain a bit of a workout first thing in the morning. |

jennrenee23
Oct 19, 2005
| I thought this was hard, but very clever, and I too thought that the pencil would have made perfect sense as well. |
dopy13
Oct 19, 2005
| that was stupid, i would never give anyone my soap yuck!!
i thought imaginary friend but with that the give and take one didn't make sense.
good one on the pencil |
iteachkids
Oct 19, 2005
| Dopy - they didn't suggest you give soap to anyone. Re-read the answer.
I LIKED this, and the pencil answer was fitting, too. Way2Go! |

Oct 19, 2005
| This was a great teaser....I never would've guessed it was soap. At first, I thought "compromise" would be a good answer, until I got to the third line: The larger I grow, the smaller I get . I understood it once I saw the answer, though. Did anyone else think it was compromise until they reached the third line..Darn, without that line, "compromise would be a good answer. Oh well. GREAT TEASER!!!!!!! |

kimberlykay
Oct 19, 2005
| bagogirl....the reason that nobody mentioned that dissolve was spelled incorrectly on the 3rd line is b/c they ask that you NOT suggest spelling or grammar corrections.....it says that right above the box where you post your comment!!! |

 |

Oct 19, 2005
| Sorry, but I can't be onboard with everyone about this one. 2 of the 4 clues work very well for the answer, I'll grant you that. But the "give and take" part (a bar of soap "giving" foam) is a bit of a stretch. And "make a difference by a handshake...?" That's REALLY a stretch. You have to be able to make a mental connection between the clues and the answer, and I think most ppl not only got stumped by the "handshake," they were actually mislead. I know I was, because shaking hands with a bar of soap isn't something I normally do. I understand that you have to leave it vague enough so that it isn't too easy, but the clues also have to make some sort of sense. All I'm saying is that it could use a little tidying up, you know? Don't get all mad at me, everyone... |

| You spelled dissolve "disolve." An important thing about riddles is thate they are "smart" teasers, they are precise, and convention errors take away from that. Otherwise, interesting idea! |

| Very nice ;). I was thinking along the lines of germs, but then the last two lines stumped me. Very original teaser . |

Aug 23, 2009
| I'm not great with riddles, but I think the classic riddle is designed to give clues that make you say, 'Aha! of course' when you get the answer. This one, and others submitted, require stretching and almost random usage of the clue vocab. e.g. 'Give and take'.
But it was fun nevertheless - I just wanted to be able to say, Aha! rather than Duh! after checking.
Oh, and surely that comment by Johanne was tongue-in-cheek! |

| I actually got this one before I finished reading the whole thing. Clever, but easy. |
avonma
Aug 23, 2009
| I couldn't think of it, either. I knew it was something simple. For give and take, I was thinking of something like a vending machine, the growing smaller bit, should have given it to me. All I could think of for "hand shake" was dice and the last clue didn't give me anything.
However, it WAS a good teaser! Thanks! |

| I have to agree with those that said the answers were a bit of a stretch. A couple of them did not really make sense, but it was a good try! |

stm8r1
Aug 24, 2012
| I was thinking a two handled saw, like lumberjacks of old used. They're held with a "handshake, they go back and forth (give and take), as they get older the teeth wear down, and a log is their worst foe since they are designed to cut through a log, but yet must be their best friend as well since without logs/trees the saw wouldn't need to exist. |
