Brain Teasers
Late Arrival
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A father was speaking to his teenage daughter: "You arrived very late, at 3 o'clock in the morning, and you kept me and your mother waiting up anxiously for you. I do not want that to ever happen again."
"But Father," the girl replied, "I will never be able to do that again." What did she mean?
"But Father," the girl replied, "I will never be able to do that again." What did she mean?
Hint
1. All the statements were correct. The father was not angry - he was teasing his daughter. The girl couldn't arrive in that fashion again because what she did can only be done once.2. The statements made did not refer to the previous night, or any recent night.
Answer
They were talking about the girl's birth.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

good puzzle, I think that if you would of wrote, "How is this possible?", instead of "What did she mean?"...It would be a little more clearer. But good job, I like it.
very clever
i dont quite understand. i believe women can give birth more then once...and it might be coincidental that the 2nd birth was late 2...
Yes... But they cannot give birth to the same person twice.
LOL! Really funny! I figured he was giving a speech at her wedding but I like your answer a lot better.
Well done. Excellent teaser.
That was fun and well written - though I'm glad I persevered to the answer without using your hint. The hint was a bit too generous, I think.
I figured mom must have died in the last hour, hence it's not possible to keep both parents up waiting ever again. Before I read the hints.
The hint really have it away for me. But great teaser!
I like this one! The answer given is the best possibility. But it would be fun to pose this brainteaser and see how many alternative explanations that are logically possible people could think of. For example, as someone suggested, the mother died between the event and the conversation. Or the father died leaving this recording with his will. Or, all three have become vampires so 3pm is no longer late but normal. What else?
