Brain Teasers
For the Well Traveled
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
The gate opened and the man died. What happened?
Hint
It's not just an ordinary gate.Answer
The latch on the oval ring that climbing ropes hook into for support is known as a GATE. The man was rock climbing and the swing gate broke and he fell to his death.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

this was hard. Good play on words, if you know what he's talking about/

or he went to hell
could also be that the gates to a lock opened before the water had risen to the right level, the gushing water in on the boat that the man was in, he died.
not everyone knows about the items involved with rock climbing
how about this... a man escaped from a local mental institution and wandered onto a horse race track. before anyone noticed, the gates opened and he was trampled to death in a gruesome scene not fit for women and children. =D
This could be anything... Add an extra clue, like a gate at 50,000 feet in the air. Yeah. That'd make you think. Cuz my answer will be he opened a gate that had blood thirsty dogs behind it. Shut up. I think my answer is right.
The "oval ring" in the teaser is known as a carabiner or just a biner. Also if you were to add a height do not make it 50,000 ft. Mt. Everest is only 29,028 feet and you can't climb much higher than that. Better to say 500ft or 1000 ft off the ground. That is more typical for rock climbing. Another piece of equipment used is called a Friend, it is a spring loaded camming device, so that may be something which could me added. Something like a gated opened a friend slipped and a man died. Anyway I think is a good one the way it is.
I thought of the exact same answer as Bluetwo's. But a true situation puzzle is allowed to be vague. Good one.
I thought the man got hit with a big, fast moving gate.
I thought the "Gate(s) of Heaven" opened and the man died. All this happens simultaneously, thereby avoiding the inherent temporal contradiction in the sentence (under my reading). Great teaser though!
The use of words are correct but you are way too vague. E.john the "friend" you talking about is better know as just a cam, I in my 5 years of climbing have never heard a cam reffered to a friend, and anchor device is my friend if you ask me.
very nice. i actually knew it was called a gate, but i didn't get it because it's been a while since i've last came across that.
I thought it was that a man lived during the time of the Roman Empire and was a criminal who had to fight a lion..
when the gate opened and released the lions, the man was devoured...
or something along those lines.
Good teaser though.
I don't think I ever want to go rock climbing, now. (=
I liked it!

I thought it was the gate on the gallows...and the man was hanged.
An answer should never be longer than the teaser.
