| I didn't get it I have never heard that phrase before . What does it mean? |
bluetwo
Nov 17, 2003
| krishnan, the phrase means that you are close to achieving success, but fall just a little bit short. you may be familiar with the games you can play to win prizes at carnivals/amusement parks. many years ago, cigars were often given as prizes. if the player just misses the object of the game, he was told that he was "close, but no cigar." |

| I agree somewhat. I could make out cigar but not sure how you could acheive the "close". Unless you were refering to how "close" its spelling was to the actual word. quite vague if you ask me. Oh well. |

| DOEHEAD - The "Teasers-Of-The-Day" are chosen from EXISTING teasers, not new ones. If you are not happy with that - and apparently your consistent comments show you are not - then you should go to the Community Forums and take the issue up with Jake. Not here.
It's a good rebus. I rated it TOPS! |

| Whew! It's been YEARS since I've heard that saying! I didn't get it...I was thinking that it was something like beating around the bush.... and the only reason for that was because the last line removes the center of the word cigar, while the other lines remove the surrounding letters....
Well, great teaser! Keep more like it coming! |
