Cool Dan
Science brain teasers require understanding of the physical or biological world and the laws that govern it.
Diamondback Dan, Copperhead Canyon's "Teller of Tall Tales", was braggin' to the boys at the Viper's Den about his ability as a master hunter.
"So there I was, all alone in the Arctic wilderness, freezin' my tail off even though it was the middle of July, not more than a mile or two from the North Pole itself. I tracked that ol' polar bear for days on end, gettin' a little closer by the minute. By the time I caught up to him, I had caught such a terrible cold I couldn't get a bead on him 'cause of my waterin' eyes and my sneezin'. He was a beauty, too, at least 1000 pounds. His hide would be in my den right now if it weren't for that blasted cold."
Jeff sighed, leaned back, and shot a stream of tobacco in the spittoon. "Dan, that story is about as thin as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model."
Does Jeff have a point?
Answer
Yes. Jeff knows that one cannot catch a cold while at the North Pole, because cold viruses cannot survive there due to the extreme low temperatures. One can only catch a cold by being in contact with another person with the virus.

| Don't Eskimos inhabit regions of the North Pole? Last time I checked, they are people. |

| It's also a myth to imply that cold weather causes colds. Temperature is irrelevant unless it weakens the immune system. |

No Yeff is the Eskimo that gave Diamondback Dan his cold |

| Of course, as your body fights cold temperatures your immunity drops, so if you were previously exposed to something ... |

| Actually the thing thatis hardest for your body to deal with is changes in temperature.. so going into the cold and then into a heated room and out again will put your body under more stress. ^_^
Any way.. your teaser made the radio in New Zealand. Go you! |

| He could have had the cold, but it only caused symptoms when his immune system was weakened by some reason or another. |

| I thought it had something to do with the fact that it is dark 1/2 the year above the arctic circle...he would've been unable to see the bear. |

| Or the fact that polar bears are not found anywhere NEAR the north pole... |
