Brain Teasers
People on a Bus
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A young man gets on a bus, carrying a backpack, reading a book and chewing gum. Then a woman gets on. She hands him a piece of paper, and he quickly writes something on it. She gets off at the next stop and throws it away. What happened?
Hint
He thought she wanted something from him. She thought he was asking her something.Answer
She is deaf, and when he chewed his gum it looked like he was trying to talk to her. She handed him paper to write it down. Little did she know that he was a soap opera star. He thought she wanted his autograph and he gave it to her, but it meant nothing to her so she threw it away.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

I was thinking that she gave him a piece of paper that said something like "I am deaf and new to this city. I need to get to 429 Elm St. Can you tell me when I have to get off the bus?" Then he wrote down "next stop". After she got off the bus she no longer needed the note, since she was where she wanted to be.

wt.?
Yeah, why did she get off at the next stop? Soap opera stars ride busses, chew gum and carry backpacks? Maybe if they're kid-soap-opera-stars. Why does the woman think that someone who is reading a book and chewing gum talking to her?

i got the deaf part but i have two questions, how was i supposed to know he was a soap opera star and what is a soap opera star doing riding a bus
I was thinking pretty much the same as electronjohn.... But I know if I was a soap opra star, I would have a car, not ride a bus.
Maybe he was riding the bus because he was doing research for a new part in a movie about a guy that rides buses across the country. lol
If he was chewing his gum with his mouth wide open, it might be possible.
do not agree, any deaf person would know the difference between someone chewing a gum or talking
i'm with him a deaf person would know the difference and how was anyone supposed to know that he was a soap opera star?
shes blind people dont ya get it
durh!

In most of the 'situation's I've read, you have to fill in a lot of stuff like the fact that she's deaf and he's a soap opera star. Oh, and I just said that because I've seen someone from daytime t.v.on a bus before, but he could be a writer, or stage actor, or something like that. Thanx for the comments.
She's blind sports guy? lol i was thinking she wanted his phone number but he was arrogant and wrote 1800-goaway or something lol
I was thinking like what electrojohn was think, but I still was a little stumped
I was thinking the man and the women were boyfriend girlfriend. And that the women had written something like."Are we still on for tonight?" and he wrote back something like. "Of Course". Then when she got offthe bus she didn't need the note anymore so threw it out.
My take on this was that she was offended by how loudly he was chewing his gum, and gently tried to press him to spit it out by giving him something to wrap it up in, but he thought she wanted his #, which she was taken aback by, and just dropped the issue, and tossed the # at the next stop.
interesting...but it actually could be any famous person. and it's very difficult to get the answer.
Ended up with the same answer as Electron Jon.
