Brain Teasers
The Three Girls, a Bridge, and Three Dogs
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
There once were three girls: Patty, Hannah, and Mary. They were on their way to a concert when they came upon a bridge guarded by three dogs. They tried coaxing the dogs to fall away from them. Hannah suggested they go back, but none of the other girls agreed. Patty suggested checking the map for another way to the concert. The girls checked their bags, but did not find a map. What they did find were: 3 ham and cheese sandwiches, 3 chocolates, 3 waters, and 3 cookies. All three girls knew they would be hungry later, and it was nearly noon, the start of the concert. They were running out of time. Suddenly, Mary gasped, "I know what to do!"
Soon, the three girls were at the concert. What did the three girls do?
Soon, the three girls were at the concert. What did the three girls do?
Hint
All of the girls ate a separate sandwich for lunch. There were still 3 of everything. In the beginning, all the sandwiches were the same. When the girls left, the sandwiches were still the same, but thinner.Answer
Each of the girls took their sandwich and took half of the ham out of it. They threw the ham in different directions and ran across the bridge. The dogs never noticed they were gone.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
