Brain Teasers
Depressurization
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A pilot was flying alone at 30,000 feet altitude when he heard a rattling noise in the plane. He immediately depressurized the plane (let the air out) and allowed the pressure in the plane to drop to that of the outside atmosphere. A sudden depressurization is generally considered very dangerous, so why did he do this?
Hint
He did this for his own safety. The rattle alerted him to a problem which might become dangerous.
Answer
The rattle he heard was a rattlesnake that had somehow got into the plane. By depressurizing the plane, he starved the snake of oxygen and it died. He was wearing an oxygen mask and survived.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
