Truck Recovery

Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.

A truck driver reported to his office that his truck had broken down. A tow truck was sent out to tow the disabled truck. When they arrived, the truck that had broken down was towing the tow truck. Why?

Hint

There was nothing wrong with the tow truck. The truck that had broken down had a serious fault which was remedied by the way they drove back.

Why indeed. Why didn't the tow truck just tow the other vehicle in the normal way? This makes no sense.

because the truck is much heavier than the tow truck so its much easier for the truck to do whatever it can to help

That makes absolutely no sense. Yes it is possible, but you don't give a reason.
