A Lawyer's Jam Problem
Trivia brain teasers have some element of trivia in them, but they are not just pure trivia questions.
Maria was a health nut. She was also a Canadian lawyer. She was in the supermarket one day looking for some jam, but of course it had to be sugar-free, as she was crazy about health. As soon as she found some, she looked closely at the label. It clearly read "Sugar Free Jam". After reading this, she made a notation of the brand name of the jam and prepared to file a case against the company. The jam was actually sugar-free, so what other problem could she have with it?
HintIt wasn't a problem with false advertising or something similar.

Answer
In Canada, anything called "Jam" has to have at least 10% sugar, so it is legally impossible to have "Sugar free jam". However, it can be called "Sugar-free fruit spread", as an example.

If anything called "jam" has to be at least 10% sugar, and it said sugar free, then it had to be false advertising. Your hint threw me off but the answer went against the hint. Good teaser anyway.

If Maria was a health nut, why did she want sugarless jam? If she had sugarless jam, it would have aspartame or sucralose, which are less healthy than sugar, if she was a health nut, she would have been looking for organic jam. If she wanted sugarless jam, it would be because she's watching her weight, or has diabetes or something.

sarcastic_brat53:jam doesn't have to be sweetened with aspartame or sucralose. It can also be sweetened with fruit juice. But you're right, she might have also wanted organic jam, but the teaser didn't really work that way because it took away from the point of it: the "sugar-free jam" part. Good point though.

Just because she's a Canadian lawyer doesn't mean she is shopping in Canada. She could have been on vacation in some other country.

I dop't think you should have included the part about her being a health nut, that way it sounds like she was looking for sugar-free jam to eat and not just to sue. Other than that, it was good. I liked the whole Canadian twist and it makes it all the better!

I got it right, but for the wrong reason...I just figured Jam, when made has sugar. I wouldn't have got it except the bit about false advertising. You have to assume that Jams in general MUST have sugar.
