Gus and Joe
Math brain teasers require computations to solve.
Gus and Joe are raising pigs. Gus said that if Joe would give him two pigs they would have an equal number, but if Gus gave Joe two of his, Joe would have twice as many as Gus. How many pigs did they each have?
Answer
Gus had 10

 The answer doesn't make sense. If gus gives joe two it works but if joe gives gus two it doesn't.

 It makes perfect sense. If gus gives joe 2 then gus has 8 and joe has 16. 8 x 2 = 16. If joe gives gus 2, then joe has 12 and gus has 12, 12 = 12

 I should take that long to get.
g + 2 = j  2
g = j  4
2(g  2) = j + 2
2g  4 = j + 2
2(j  4)  4 = j + 2
2j  8  4 = j + 2
j = 14
g = j  4
g = 10
Therefore Joe had 14 and Gus had 10.

 If Jo give 2 to be equal then he goes down 2 and Gus goes up 2 so Jo has 4 more than Gus. If Gus gives 2 he goes down 2 and Jo goes up 2 so Jo now has 8 more than Gus which is double so he has 16. So before the last pigs were given Gus had 14 and Jo had 10.
