Trapdoors
Logic puzzles require you to think. You will have to be logical in your reasoning.
There are five doors, one leads to the exit, the others lead to traps. They are in a line. The clues tell you which position the doors are in the line and where the door to freedom is. All the clues are true. Each door has a clue written on it. The clues read:
The blue door: This door is two spots away from the door to freedom.
The red door: This door is at the far right, and is two spots away from the blue door.
The purple door: This door is not next to the door to freedom.
The green door: This door is left of the blue door.
The orange door: This door is not next to the red or blue doors.
Which door leads to freedom?
Answer
The orange door leads to freedom.

| Please phrase more carefully.
'Two doors away' could refer to the second door in one direction or mean there are two doors between the doors in question.
Also, should be precise about whether 'to the left' means directly to the left or just somewhere to the left.
Thank you. |

That would be stupid. |

| Nice try Rackstraw, but you're wrong.
-No, that would be impossible, as there would have to be 6 doors; not to mention the fact that nobody counts three doors and considers it to be 2 doors.
Again, this cannot result in a possible outcome. If we start with the red on the far right, put the blue 2 (count 2) to the left of it, and the * 2 to the left of that, then there is ONLY one space "to the left" of BLUE.
Any riddle doesn't have to specify things if it cannot result in a possible answer. There IS no ambiguity. |

| Just read more comments. Have to disagree with those saying "to the left" should be more precise. The fact that it wasn't precise is what made it tricky and interesting. A brain"teaser" not just a gimme |

| I got this one pretty fast. Even though I did try (as always) to make things more difficult than they really are by trying to confuse myself with whether far right was my right as I face computer or far right if I were standing in front of doors and looking out! See what I mean!?! I tend to analize things way too much! I do, however, come up with the correct answer! |

| I dont know what you guys r saying. This "teaser" was all wrong...
If you have the red door on the far right and the blue door 2 spots away the orang door has to be next to either the red door or the blue door.
_ B _ _ R
It cant work!!! If you had someting else in mind then you should watch wording or be more specific |

OGBPR
and blue is two spots from the door to freedom, but it says red isn't the door to freedom, thus. Orange. |

| umm yeah... first of all.. theres no way the answer to this could be the orange door. the most obvious and logical answer would be the red door. and if this isnt a mistake and that is the answer, then it should be explained thoroughly. howeever i think it is not explained simply because there really isnt an explanation :/ thats kinda lame cuz i almost liked this one.
oh well |

| Good lord, people, it's not that difficult!
As the teaser states, there are 5 doors. Thus, there is one spot for each door. Now to the clues.
_ _ _ _ _
"The blue door: This door is two spots away from the door to freedom." We'll hold off on this information for now, since we can't place the door yet.
"The red door: This door is at the far right, and is two spots away from the blue door."
From this clue, we can place the Red door on the far right, and since the blue door must be two spots away (or have 1 door between it and the red door), we can place the blue door as well.
_ _ B _ R
"The purple door: This door is not next to the door to freedom." Also a "hold on to it for now" clue.
"The green door: This door is left of the blue door."
From here, we know the green door is not to the right of the blue door, but we don't know at which spot to the left the green door stands.
"The orange door: This door is not next to the red or blue doors.
"
If we go back to our diagram, we discover that we can place the orange door:
_ _ B _ R
The only place the orange door CAN go is the far left, because that's the only spot that is not next to the Blue door and/or the Red door.
O _ B _ R
Now, looking back at the clue for the green door, since it must be to the left of the blue door, we can place it between the Blue and Orange doors, leaving the last spot for the purple door.
O G B P R
Since the door to freedom must be two spaces away from Blue (so either Orange or Red) and the Purple door is not next to the door to freedom, the Orange door MUST be the door to freedom.
Is that enough of an explanation? Sheesh...
Consequently, the word "door" no longer looks like an actual word. |

rockstar1009
Aug 02, 2011
| This one wasn't that difficult. I solved it in my head fairly easily, but those who claim they guessed it just based on a single individual clue could have been easily tricked.
The only doors that instantly can be ruled out are the blue door (since it's two spots away) and the green door (since it's next to the blue door, and must be at least two spots away).
The red door could have been the door to freedom, as it's two doors from the blue. The orange door could have been the door to freedom, since it's not next to the blue door (meaning it's at least two doors from the blue, which qualifies it as the door to freedom) or the purple door could be the door (it's not next to the door to freedom if it IS the door to freedom).
All the clues need to be evaluated together to rule out the red and purple doors as possibilities. |
