| Great, tough teaser ... I would recommend rephrasing it to say it "could" be broken down phonetically to sound like "fish." You wouldn't technically break down "GHOTI" phonetically that way. |

| I think when people put teasers in that are not original, they should state the source. This is not a creative teaser, but a simplification of a widely known puzzle which asks the reader to work out what 4-letter word "ghoti" spells!
"Ghoti" is often attributed to G.B. Shaw (1856-1950). In addition to his essays, plays and novels, he promoted reform of the English language.
Readers might also be interested to try another (less famous) example of this - "Ghoughpteighbteau" as an alternative spelling of ******!!
Clue: Like the "ghoti", it's also found below ground level and popularly eaten, fried with ghoti!
