Kennel Madness
Logic puzzles require you to think. You will have to be logical in your reasoning.
7 dogs were boarding at the local Pet Lodge. Each dog was in a separate run, all in a single row. One of the employees left the cages unlocked and the dogs have all gotten out of their runs. She needs to put each of them back in the right cage, but this is all she remembers. Help her get them in the right cages, and QUICK!
Dogs: Beau, Duke, Fluffy, Lady, Princess, Rover, and Spike
1. Spike doesn't like other dogs much, so he was on one of the ends.
2. Princess was somewhere to the left of Beau.
3. Rover was in the third run from the right.
4. The only dog between Fluffy and Lady was Princess.
5. Duke was directly to the left of Lady.
Answer
Duke-Lady-Princess-Fluffy-Rover-Beau-Spike

| I went with the old P&P (pencil and paper) crowd for this one. Those dogs gave my brain a run for its money. Good teaser. |
Pizzazz2u
Aug 03, 2006
| I have to agree on clue #2 being totally useless. Still, it is a good teaser for P&P users. I figured it out in my head in just a few minutes...but that is me. |

| I also thought at first: "No, I'm not going to get all riled up trying to figure this one out." Then, I said: "Well, let me give it one real try. I will pretend that I'm a genius, and that I can see all this in my mind instead of writing it down."
And, I GOT IT! yay!!! yay!!! yay!!!
That was a good one, and just easy enough, but not way too easy. Thanks very much! |

Aug 03, 2006
| Yay, 58th person to comment. Same as above I found clue 2 to be redundant. And for those who have issues with the logic-
The only dog to be between L & is P, which means somewhere along the line there is either LPF or FPL. As D is to the immediate left of L it can't be FP(D)L, so it would need to be DLPF. Knowing that R is 3rd from right, there's only one side of R that has four slots, so we have DLPFR??. S is on the end so it must be DLPFR?S (because if S where on the other end it would then move R). So by process of elimination - borne out by Q2, the correct order has to be DLPFRBS.
Mind you if you've read this far in the comments I'm guessing I'm not telling you anything you didn't already work out. |

| I like these. Can do them in my head in the morning, but usually am not seeing them until after 6 P.M. so I rely on paper and pen. |

Aug 04, 2006
| Good one. I love logic puzzles. Being the total geek that I am, I didn't even attempt to work it out in my head but went straight to a classic logic grid whipped up in Excel. In retrospect, it was a little too easy for a grid, but hey, I got to make a grid. Yeah, I know, like I said, I'm a geek. Thanks for endulging my geekiness. |

| Nice stuff, quite easy and interesting. All you guys who solved this teaser without pencil and paper, hats off to you. I am getting too old to solve this type of teasers without P and P! |

Aug 05, 2006
| Not a bad one, no pencil or paper needed, several reads through the clues... but no notes. I did not read all the user comments, only a few, but in response to a some, im pretty sure there was only one answer... as opposed to multiple ones as some suggested. |

| @Riddlerman:
Lady, Princess, and Fluffy all had to be next to each other, with Duke to the left of lady - so that's 4 dogs fixed (heh) together. With Rover locked into the 3rd from the right spot, the only place for 4 consecutive dogs are 1-4.
So if spike were on the left, either Rover couldn't be 3rd from the right, or the duke-lady-princess-fluffy quartet would be broken. |
iggy39
Aug 03, 2012
| I'm so confused!!! |
thecatladycac
Aug 03, 2012
| To Riddlerman: If you number the spots 1 thru 7, Third from the right is spot number 5 - you don't place yourself at number 7 and then count back 3, you count spot 7 as number one on the right, spot 6 as number two on the right and spot 5 as number three on the right. Rover would be at spot 5. Now that I've thoroughly confused both of us, I have to say I enjoyed this teaser even though is was easy. |
