The phoenix! The phoenix, in mythology, is a fabulous bird that periodically regenerated itself, used in literature as a symbol of death and resurrection. According to legend, the phoenix lived in Arabia; when it reached the end of its life (500 years), it burned itself on a pyre of flames, and from the ashes a new phoenix arose. As a sacred symbol in Egyptian religion, the phoenix represented the sun, which dies each night and rises again each morning. According to Herodotus, the bird was red and golden and resembled an eagle.

I like mythical creatures so this was fun
Not too hard in this Harry Potter world, but fun thanks for the teaser.
Excellent hope you do more like it.
Great Job!
Except for the 'red and gold, I am no liar' line...it could have been an old growth pine forest, which needs a fire to release seeds of the next generation, but rack one up for the old bird. Nice Job.
I was clueless I like it when I learn something new
Nice one Tam
Like it a lot

i did not see the hint so i guessed it was the black death. The red and gold i couldnt figure out. but victims of the black death were burned.
After reading it several times I could only think about the sun. I was glad that you made some reference to the sun in your answer because I felt alot better knowing that I had some clue on what the answer was. This being your first one it was a good one . Keep it coming!!!!!
Well done.
I liked it. The only reason I guessed was because I'm a fan of the phoenix. I didn't know about the 500 years or the Egyptian part though. Nice.

Your first teaser!!! Wonderful job. I loved it, and I think I got it, not because I live in Phoenix, but because I watched the Harry Potter movie recently. Looking forward to the grandson coming in; as I know he's going to love your teaser. Write more, please!

Didn't look at the hint, and was leaning towards Joan of Arc - you know - burned at the stake? oh, well, you got me on this one; it was terrific for your first attempt!

Guessed The Phoenix almost immediately but did not immediately click on the answer, for I did not know if The Phoenix was red and gold. I was also uncertain of its life span. It's good to learn from a teaser.
Sadly...*sniff*...I didn't get it...
Sorry for any confusion. This was NOt my first teaser, just my first RIDDLE. Thanks for the warm wishes though.
Glad you liked it! Most of you anyhow!
The Phoenix is fascinating. It is defined and expressed in many different mythologies.
Thanks. Peace

I guessed the correct answer, but I didn't know the details. Thanks!
I, too, thought of Harry Potter's wand, but the content, rhyme and meter of this riddle really reminded me of Sylvia Plath's poem, "Lady Lazarus": "I've done it again/ One year in every ten..."
Fun riddle Although I got the answer, I learned some details from your explanation. Thanks
John McCain! Oh wait, he's a liar, so that can't be.
Good riddle!
Good riddle!

Got it right by pure guesswork!
Although i got it immediately, without the hint, it was an excellent teaser. First on ever to make it to my favourites list.
Well written teaser - thanks! It's a beautiful day here - hope it's a good one for my friends!
AWOR- what else can I say. A to my friends. And to all my enemies-remember to inhale before you exhale and smile( it takes less facial muscles)
I think I know too much mythology, I actually got it right... usually I have to use the hint for these, half the time I don't even get it then
EZ, AROB.
Hi G & K
Hi G & K
Awesome! I love phoenixes!
Very interesting teaser. I did not get it, but liked the explanation anyway!
I agree with you, Babe. I liked the explanation also. Thanks for posting!
This was one of those where I just guessed. The only thing that resonated with me was funeral pyre- then I guessed, looked at the answer and was right. I'll take it!
Hi Denise "Habs" You gave me a good laugh back in 2014, about your height and your shoe size. It reminds me what my dad used to say about me when I was just a youngster. He would say, "You would be a lot taller if you had not turned up with such big feet" I look back now and think that was a bit cruel for a kid to hear. Nice teaser
That was beautifully written and lot of fun! I'm with the crowd that didn't get the answer, but I still really enjoyed the riddle.
I actually got it right away. I read a book recently which referenced the Phoenix or I would have been lost. A very good riddle, with lots of interesting information in the answer. Looking forward to seeing more of your riddles.
Although I got it fairly quickly, I did know much about the Phoenix other than it rose from the fire.
Sorry, I made a typo - I meant to say I did not know much about the Phoenix other than it rose from the fire.
