Spazy Croonerisms 5
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
A spoonerism is a pair of words that can have their initial sounds switched to form new words. The pairs need only sound the same, not necessarily be spelled the same (power saw & sour paw, horse cart & coarse heart). There may sometimes be one or two connecting words (kick the stone & stick the cone, king of the rats & ring of the cats). Given the following definitions, what are the spoonerisms?
1) a circular depression & a part for a canine actor
2) a container for an alcoholic beverage & an insignificant insect
3) a container for a container & the bottom of a coffin
4) a cunning wolf relative & insect foot coverings
Answer
1) round hole & hound role
2) beer mug & mere bug
3) basket case & casket base
4) sly fox & fly socks

| Though I really enjoy language teasers, for some reason I have a problem with Spoonerisms. This one was no exception. It was fun trying to figure them out. Good job. |

| LOL! Brain Freeze! heehee!
This was very hard, for me at least. Usually, if you can just find ONE word, like for no. 1: circular depression, try "hole", then find a rhyme for "hole" that would be right for "a part for a canine actor", role! THEN, ya see, you KNOW that the other word for "hole" has to start with an "r", and the other word for "role" starts with "h". Circular depression, you already have "hole" for depression, circular, starts with "r", um... ROUND! Now you can easily figure out the fourth word: hound! This is me being Mr. Smarty Pants because I didn't get two of them so I'm compensating. I just didn't think of "base" for bottom, although it totally valid, and although I thought of "casket" and "basket", I just couldn't get the fourth word this time, even with my Mr. SmartyPants foolproof method...
Very good teaser, hard! Thanks! |

| Difficult for me, but still loved it! Missed number one. Got hung up on "bit part" (canine actor), and Bart Pit (Brad's brother)... ..... I certainly appreciated the time and effort that must go in to creating these. Thanks for submitting another good one! |

| Goit # 1 and 4 easily but the other two stumped me. I did know that 'base' comes somewhere but didnt fit in 'casket', as 'carton' was a misleading solution in my mind!
Great teaser, and please do keep these coming - I like these a lot! |

| 3.5 / 4 ain't bad!! I'm the exact opposite to the first poster (teen_wiz): I AM blonde, and I got all except the last one!! I knew it would be fox and socks, but just wasn't SLY enough to figure it out and FLY away from this teaser, laughing.
Oh, but I am laughing still! |

| Come on doehead, everyone knows that flies only wear socks with their running shoes, otherwise they wear pantyhose that blend in and are hard to see but give great support.
I support this teaser as a fun job. Well done! |

| The flies in our part of the country also wear argyles with their golfing shoes. But knowing that didn't help me. I didn't get a single one of these. |

| I really loved this one. I liked it that most of the answers made sense (beer mug, round hole, basket case, sly fox) which made it very slightly easier, though I did get out my thesaurus to get them all.
For "a container for an alcoholic beverage & an insignificant insect"
I came up with cider spoon and spider coon, but thought no way will that be the answer and carried on looking! |

| I guess flies wear black socks, that's why they are hard to see. |

| In 3, got hung up at casket / basket and couldn't find the easier parts - case / base 'cuz I was overthinking it for a special name of a coffin's bottom half. Drats! |
