Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.

I am a set of three words, all with the same four letters.
First I am a type of carriage.
Then switch my middle letters, and I am a cover often useful on a diamond.
Now switch my end letters ...
When you see me, you also see hair.

What are the words?

trap = a light one-horse carriage
tarp = a canvas cover, one use is to protect a baseball diamond from rain
part = the line that divides hair, as when combing

Yay, I get to be first. Excellent riddle. The diamond part tricked me up. Good job!!
Feb 06, 2006

Yep, I wasn't even close to guessing that...great one! Keep up the great work!
Feb 10, 2006

that was hard, nice job
Feb 17, 2006

Very cool! Didn't get it though . Keep 'em coming!
Feb 25, 2006

Well, you could go two ways with a diamond and tarp was the best answer.
Apr 30, 2008

Great teaser. Didn't get it though. My mind kept getting stuck on carriage = pram
Apr 30, 2008

Sorry, but that was way too easy.
Apr 30, 2008

Way too clever for my morning brain Nicely 'put together'. Thanks for the teaser
Apr 30, 2008

i wasn't able to get it~!
Apr 30, 2008

Does getting one right out of the 3 count? I didn't think so, but I did get part. I also started with cart, not trap, so I was way off. Good teaser, thanks for posting.
Apr 30, 2008

Didnt know trap but got the other two right off. I would say good one but,
they are all good!!!!!!!!!!
Have a nice day!!!
Apr 30, 2008

Easy and fun! I also started with cart, but after figuring out the other two, realized it wasn't right. Had trouble getting "trap." Thanks!
Apr 30, 2008

Easy after I had the second one .,just a matter of exchanging the leters. Something an elementary school student should be able to solve.
Apr 30, 2008

Way too easy, but then I have always liked this kind of puzzle.
Apr 30, 2008

started with cart, got it wrong, still great wordplay.
Apr 30, 2008

I did not get that one BUT I thought it was brilliant!
One day I will be better at these.

Apr 30, 2008

It's fascinating how puzzles are hard for some people, easy for others. Many teasers that others find easy are hard for me, but this one, which many found too hard, was a cinch for me. There's just no accounting for level of difficulty.
Apr 30, 2008

I found this one easy ... that's rare for me when it comes to riddles. Thanks for posting, it was fun.
Apr 30, 2011

I started with cart And I agree with craniac, I found this pretty difficult but a lot of higher rated riddles are a piece of cake. (maybe, pieces of cake? )
Apr 30, 2011

Got the 2nd and 3rd words, but not the first. Never heard of "trap" as a light carriage.
Apr 30, 2011

Really easy, you only had to get one word and had all the others. Helps to read a lot, especially English (as opposed to American) writers. For instance, Mr. Holmes, when out of the city, often refers to traveling in a trap.
Apr 30, 2011

And don't forget rapt, as in totally absorbed.
Apr 30, 2011

My thought process also started with "pram" for the carriage, but then it didn't' work with the other clues. Figuring out the second one gave me the answer to the first one, had never heard of it before but knew it had to be right. The third one was also pretty obvious once I had the right 4 letters.
Overall, a good teaser.
Apr 30, 2011

Very easy, but cute. I forgot I did this one before til I noticed that I had already rated it.
Apr 30, 2014

Well, I got tarp and part, but had tram as the first one and realized it had to be wrong when I got the other two. Therefore I only got two and I have never heard of trap as a two wheeled horse drawn carriage. Just now looked it up in the dictionary. Nice teaser.
Apr 30, 2014

And ... for all of us. Nice to have learned something. Would never have accounted for that without the comments.

Got SEVEN comments on yesterday's TOTD and betting we can beat that today.

Starting off with ONE (thanks, Babe) and waiting for ....

#TWO ... (I am not counting my own).

Apr 30, 2014

Well here is comment 3 though I am saying nothing as if you look 4 comments up, I commented 3 years ago and have nothing else to add.
Apr 30, 2014

Easy, even though I had never heard of a cart called a trap.
Apr 30, 2014

Very easy for me. Well I guess we will have more than 10 comments today. 5 by readers and 7 or 8 by the little rabbit.
Apr 30, 2014

Hey, cutebug, wrong again - as usual.

If you had bothered to read "the above" you would have known that I NEVER include myself in the "big-ten" tally.

So .... you are #FOUR

And ... I think the solution to your (and any others here) problem of irritation concerning my posts is a very simple one:

Any time you see the word BADBUNNEE to the left of a teaser or teaser comment, then ......

That should take care of the problem unless you are unable to refrain from so doing by being immersed in your own self-imbued angst (look it up).

Now ... ON TO THE BIG TEN !!!

Apr 30, 2014

I don't have to look anything up. I probably forgot more than you'll ever learn. You are just overzealous about the comments. ENOUGH SAID rabbit. Crawl back in your hole!!!!
Apr 30, 2014

OK ... OK .... you win. I quit.

I guess one of us has to stop this and looks like it will have to be me.

no more BIG TENS !!!!!

And I will no longer reply to any of your flames.

On to .......... the BIG NINE !!!!!!!!!

Next ????

Apr 30, 2014

Good quiz, but I have seen this one before. We have some bright teaser-players here, but lately the sarcasm is getting very tiresome. Come on, folks, keep it nice and friendly.
Apr 30, 2014

Thanks, GW. That's good advice and I'll take it as such.

And that makes you commenter #FIVE.

Only need four more.

Next ???

I understand that riddles are supposed to be a bit difficult and not obvious, but I got tripped up on the instruction to switch the end letters. I was trying to swap the 3rd and 4th letters.

For some reason I had TARP but could not figure out what TAPR had to do with hair.

I totally did not see PART.

Better luck next time.
Apr 30, 2017

I see that I have already rated this, but it was still fun and easy. I, too, have never heard of a cart called a trap.
Apr 30, 2017

I searched for all the meanings of cart in all of the biggest dictionaries I could find, no where was the word 'trap' mentioned as a definition for cart.
Apr 30, 2017

Catmom- check the free dictionary by Farlex on the internet.
May 02, 2017

That was far too hard for me, but I still enjoyed the outcome. Nice job!
