We ShareRiddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
I wander about the land, never settling permanently in one place.
An unconventional way of life I live, at my own pace.
In my time, I struggled with a notorious and controlling mama flower.
And bloomed when you let me entertain you in my finest hour.
With the help of a small rodent who will point the way,
My system was the first to assist you with records and instruments throughout your day.
Although you might think I am harmless as I flit from here to there,
I can strip and weaken giants of their green covering, which they may wear.
When I am done, I leave behind a path of destruction and barren despair.
I was given by a famous dame with raven hair and beautiful violet eyes,
To an eccentric king who is known for telling you to beat it and often wears a disguise.
I can appear quite robotic in a mysterious and scientific realm and view,
And am quite the hostess during movie intermissions for which I was created to do.
My final clue is that of a short lived charter member who fought for justice in a league.
I am very good at blending in which adds to my intrigue.
If you have solved each of the clues I have given without err,
Tell me now; what is the name that we all share?
HintThere are many different forms of me.
AnswerI am a nomad, a system and a moth you see,
An elephant, a robot and a comics super heroine; that's me.
My name is quite clear you must agree,
I am all the above for I am a Gypsy!
Per Dictionary: Gypsy: One inclined to a nomadic, unconventional way of life.
Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, struggled with her mother, Mama Rose, whose name has become synonymous with "the ultimate show business mother." The musical Gypsy: A Musical Fable was based on her memoirs and contained many songs that became popular standards, including "Let Me Entertain You."
Gypsy was the first modern document preparation system, using the modern style of graphical user interface (in which the mouse was used to initiate commands), and would be familiar to any user of a modern personal computer. Per Thesaurus, records and instruments are listed as documents.
In North America the European Gypsy moth has spread through the NE United States and adjacent parts of Canada, West to Wisconsin and South to North Carolina. The Asian variety has begun to damage areas of the Pacific Northwest. Gypsy moths defoliate millions of acres of trees in the United States yearly; repeated infestations weaken and kill the trees.
Michael Jackson is known as the King of Pop. In 1983 his hit "Beat It" reached #1 on the U.S. Singles Pop Chart. He is also known for his eccentric life style. Gypsy is the name of the elephant given to Michael Jackson from Elizabeth Taylor. He named the elephant, Gypsy, after what Elizabeth Taylor was wearing. Elizabeth Taylor received the title "Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire" by Queen Elizabeth in 1999, and may now be addressed as "Dame Elizabeth."
Gypsy is one of the robot characters on the television series Mystery Science Theater 3000. Gypsy normally only appeared during the host segments part of the series, but once took a seat in the theater to watch one of the movies.
Gypsy was first introduced during the "Justice League Detroit" era in the 1980s, which also included such characters as Vibe, Vixen, Martian Manhunter, and Elongated Man. She was created to cash in on the look of pop star Cyndi Lauper, which was popular at the time. She was also a charter member of The Justice League Task Force and the first incarnation of the short-lived Conglomerate. Gypsy will become an official member of the Birds of Prey during the One Year Later event. She has chameleon abilities, which enable her to blend into her background.
Note: There are other things that share the name "Gypsy" which have not been listed.
