Brain Teasers
A True Scorcher
Trivia
Trivia brain teasers have some element of trivia in them, but they are not just pure trivia questions.Trivia
Many names I've been given, both masculine and feminine. On occasion I am warlike, a protector and kingly, and at times I can be the source of all creation. I often scorch mortals; one's wings of wax I did destroy. At times I gladden their minds. Keeping my distance, I console those whom I fought before; they feel my kindness as they once felt my wrath when, after such suffering, I soothe their lives.
What am I?
What am I?
Answer
A Sun god. Many ancient civilisations worshipped the sun as a god, and for some, the sun became the focus of power, royalty, war, life, creation and so on. In many ancient traditions, the sun is considered a masculine way of being. However, to the Teutonic, Japanese, Oceanic, Maori, and Cherokee cultures, the sun is also feminine.
The sun was an important part of mythology, art, and literature. In astrology, for example, the sun rules the sign of Leo, which is symbolized by the lion and is associated with royalty. Likewise, in 18th century France, Louis XIV called himself "the Sun King," emphasizing the power of his will and the glory of his court.
In ancient Greece, Apollo represented the sun itself. With his lyre, bow, and chariot, he drove across the sky daily. Similarly, Ra was the first and greatest of all the Egyptian Gods. Like Apollo, Ra ruled the sun, and travelled across the sky each day in his boat. Besides the creation of the world, Ra also stood for life, death and rebirth, justice, truth, and destiny.
Finally the 'wings of wax' is a reference to Icarus, who flew too close to the sun.

I found it simple, but its mostlyu the wings of wax that made it easy for me, as I recognize the myth.
I got the "god" part , but not the"sun" part.
Good teaser! I was thinking "fire"
