| Thank you for your kind comments.
The trick was trying to work out what the family were really doing because I introduced unusual collective nouns in order to trick you...which it seems I did. |

| I thought a group of whales was called a Pod. |
shawneeo
Sep 05, 2006
| I liked it! I thought whales were called a "pod" also! Aren't they? Or, are the terms used just terms that can be applied to different groups, not necessarily the only terms that can be used for those specific animals?
In any case, it was fun, AND, I actually guessed it RIGHT, yay! Thanks! |

| Isn't it a school of fish? Anyways, if all of the names are correct, this is an awesome teaser. |

| The only way I was able to figure this out was that ... for a change ... I looked at the category. When I saw it was a trick, I knew "something was fishy," so I reread it differently and came up with the answer.
I think the ^ "pod" comments ^ are correct ... |
kman613
Sep 05, 2006
| Good, easy one. I recognized all the animal group names, so quickly figured it out. The first sentence and start of second sentence seemed a bit awkward though, with the 2nd starting "while they were there"... |
MurfQ
Sep 05, 2006
| Nice one! Pretty easy. Got it before I was halfway through reading, but I must admit that I'd never heard of a sleuth or a battery as animal groups before so I was left wondering if I was right but couldn't think of anything else anyway.
I've never heard of whales being referred to as a school before but thought immediately of a school of fish. |

| Knowing and identifying differents names, has always been a fascination of mine. I am surprised that others have not caught on to the tricks. Keep up the awesome job! |
jazzmusician46
Sep 05, 2006
| Thanks for your comments. They are nice and constructive. I think you can call a 'bunch' of whales a 'pod' or a 'school'. Either is correct. Some of the other groups had multiple answers too; so I suppose it depends on what 'school' you went to. (Sorry...couldn't resist that one!) |

| I had seen this one already "random"ly, but never read the comments. I was expecting a lot of arguments about puppies in a zoo, and a school of whales, but even those who noticed that did not harp on it and most praised the submitter. I wish this were the norm and and not the exception to most teasers with a large amount of comments. |

| Actually, a group or herd of whales can be a school or a pod. Consider the following from www.dictionary.com:
pod2 /pɒd/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[pod] Pronunciation
–noun
1. a small herd or school, esp. of seals or whales.
2. a small flock of birds. |

| the first thing that came to mind was a street parade...they see a school, a family, a [music]band, litter(trash), sleuth(cop or detective), army(young marines, sea cadets,...), troop(organized group; example: the girl/boy scouts, ), battery(generator), and on their way home a party near a den( room of a house)...it all is sensable.....at the zoo doesn't connect to me, but it is a mind boggler, i'll give you that |

| EXCELLENT! COLLECTIVE NOUNS DON'T GET USED VERY OFTEN, SO I WAS GLAD TO SEE YOUR TEASER.
I HOWEVER HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A SCHOOL OF WHALES AND THE DICTIONARY DEFINITION SUBMITTED DOES NOT SAY A COLLECTIVE OF WHALES IS A SCHOOL, IT USES THE TERM TO DEFINE A POD.
I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR CONFIRMING THE TERM SCHOOL
YOUR'S WAS ONE OF THE BETTER TEASERS I HAVE SEEN. |
jazzmusician46
Sep 10, 2006
| Thanks IMurray. Your comments are appreciated. Regarding your question about the whales, they can also be called either a SCHOOL, a HERD or a GAM of whales. Moreover, a POD of whales refers to a small school and a GRIND to a group of bottle nose whales. I hope that helps. |

| I must quibble on this one. Zoos do not generally exhibit sea-life. I had put down for my answer that Frederick and his mother were visiting a zoo and its associated aquarium and aviary. |
