Once upon a time, in the West Lake village, a servant lived with his master. After service of about 30 years, his master became ill and was going to die. One day, the master called his servant and asked him for a wish. It could be any wish but just one. The master gave him one day to think about it. The servant became very happy and went to his mother for discussion about the wish. His mother was blind and she asked her son for making a wish for her eye-sight to come back. Then the servant went to his wife. She became very excited and asked for a son as they were childless for many years. After that, the servant went to his father who wanted to be rich and so he asked his son to wish for a lot of money. The next day he went to his master and made one wish through which all the three (mother, father, wife) got what they wanted. You have to tell what the servant asked the master.

The servant said, "My mother wants to see her grandson swinging on a swing of gold."

Apr 24, 2002

or "I want three more wishes"
Apr 25, 2002

or u cud ask for 3 more wishes
Apr 28, 2002

I thought it was a pretty good teaser! I thought that maybe he could say, "I wish my mother, father, and wife were happy with what they want>" or sumtin.
(user deleted)
Apr 30, 2002

That was good. I thought he would have to ask for the money, because there's not a lot his master can do about the lady's eyesight, but you could pay to get medical treatment. Then they could adopt or something.
May 02, 2002

Nice one, but also very easy
May 02, 2002

maybe the servent had another brother or sister who had a child and his mother would see that child on the swing therefore his wifes wishes would not be met after all it doesnt say he was an only child
May 07, 2002

That is a good one!!!!!
May 11, 2002

I would have thought he would have asked for more wishes
May 11, 2002

This is a tricky one!
I like it!
May 11, 2002

Better if there were only one possible correct answer. 'Grant all my family their wishes' would be the obvious answer and others would work too.
May 13, 2002

I thought he would say "I wish my mother could see the grandchild of my rich father."
May 13, 2002

Good teaser but the answer wernt that great. like what the person b4 me wrote as the answer better
May 17, 2002

i thought the wife asked to be childLESS forever
May 21, 2002

A good one, but it assumes that a) he's an only child (because otherwise his mother could have a grandson by one of her other children) and b) that the mother is still married to the father (because otherwise the wish would make the mother rich not the father)!
May 22, 2002

This was quite a good brain teaser. Obviously, many answers could be used - but I think the one that is given is the best answer. Requires some thinking.
May 30, 2002

That answer just doesn't appeal to me. HELKATW, your first comment is nitpicking like some others and your second is highly cynical although probably accurate.
May 31, 2002

I thought he could wish for his mother to be born again. That way she would be able to see once more, his wife would have a baby to care for and his father could sell the story to a newspaper or write a book about it and get rich!
Jun 03, 2002

wery clever
Jun 04, 2002

it was a god one but it has alot of answers!
Jun 07, 2002

Just to pock a little hole, what if those parents are his adoptive parents?
Still a right corker!!
(user deleted)
Jun 21, 2002

this one is funny!
He wished for his mother to see her new grand-child playing with the grandfather's money?
Jun 28, 2002

Another answer could be: "I wish for my son to be a very rich doctor."

That way his wife could have her child, the son could treat the servant's mother's eyes, and be kind enough to give money to the servant's father.
Jun 29, 2002

That was really good!
Some of my friends from school even told me that they read the situation on! It's so popular!
Jul 06, 2002

I LOVE this riddle!!!!!!!!!!! : )
Jul 17, 2002

Good answers drworm and pinkrose but still as it says "Many 'Situation Puzzles' are not designed to be answered by themselves. The idea is for one person to know the answer and other people in a group to try and guess it using yes or no questions. The first person to get the answer is the winner". SandPman read that!!! And hlkatw and dark-prince n evry1 else read that part too!! Gd1 arij!!
Jul 17, 2002

btw, plz no1 take offence at my comment!!
Aug 13, 2002

i agree w/ missie and mogmat
Aug 15, 2002

If there's one bad servant teaser, I haven't heard it!!
Mar 09, 2003

Hehe. Very clever, and much simpler than what I thought of - I thought he would wish to have a son who would become a famous eye doctor - then the son would become rich and maybe give money to the grandfather, and fix the grandmother's eyesight. But now that I think of it that wouldn't work because by the time the son grew up the grandmother would be very old....very good!

Oct 24, 2003

This sentence reads, "One day, the master called his servant and asked him for a wish". If this request is true, shouldn't the servant be granting a wish to the master?
Jul 24, 2004

good, but a little easy.
Aug 20, 2004

That is very funny!
Oct 23, 2004

That was really clever! I thought he would ask for more wishes
(user deleted)
Dec 01, 2004

The end says:
You have to tell what the servant asked the master.
The answer says:
"The servant said...."
I assumed it was a question and that he was therefore asking for more wishes or for their wishes to come true.
Ending...not good.
Feb 25, 2005

Simple maybe, but I didn't guess it. I went with the wish for three more wishes thing, too. Think the servants answer is much better.
Feb 25, 2005

This one is rather straightforward, but highly entertaining
(user deleted)
Mar 04, 2005

that was really funny! good work!
Mar 28, 2005

The answer is stupid. The riddle was wirtten out very well and it made e hope for a great answer. What does a swing of gold have to do with it. You could have used any example but you picked a "swing of gold"....stupid!
Apr 06, 2005

Ok, I was way off.
Apr 26, 2005

an ok teaser, only because it has so many alternate answers. when i read it i thought the servant would ask for three more wishes, or something like that. and by the way sk8babe, itss a mystery teaser not a situation teaser
May 24, 2005

Well, I'm going to take a shot here about that "swing of gold" phrase. My gues is that's the phrase used in the reference from whence our member cribbed the puzzle. This is an oooold folk riddle.
May 30, 2005

cool, but how is he going to grant those wishes?
Jun 10, 2005

Jun 19, 2005

Kind of cool that the servant never directly asked for anything for himself, yet prospered by asking for others. I'm sure he finagled a cut of the gold swing after the fact, was happy to have a little one to carry on his name, and was glad his mom could see him again (which also helped with the baby sitting!). Fun!
Jul 29, 2005

wow that one was really good i said that he wanted to be the milloniare because if the millionare was married and had a son,and had an alive mother then it would work because he would also be rich
Jul 29, 2005

awesome whoa
Aug 13, 2005

I was thinking he could ask for a son who will become a wealthy and good eye doctor. Not a bad riddle at all
Sep 28, 2005

Sep 30, 2005

he could ask for 3 wishes.then wish for,a baby of any sex.last, wish for good eyesight for the mother.that would all add up to a wish.the grandson wouldn't like to swing on gold all day wouldn't she/he....
Nov 16, 2005

I liked it! I had quite a few different scenarios but yours was better, shorter and cooler!
Nov 20, 2005

This was very well written and much fun trying to figure out what he was going to ask for. For this to be a family sight you people sure don't mind calling one another out of their name. If you don't like it so be it but to be so rude and mean is uncalled for. Children read these comments!
Jan 30, 2006

Clever answer, requires some thought behind it.
Feb 04, 2006

This is actually a really neat teaser! I loved it! My answer was totally far off , but I really enjoyed it!!!!!! GREAT JOB!
Feb 20, 2006

Or he could have simply asked for 3 more wishes ( turn his one wish to 3)
Apr 10, 2006

To me, this one was a bit boring.
Apr 27, 2006

A very old tale indeed, probably Persian or Indian, there is an old Chinese version 'with the grandmother watching her grand child dancing in a silk robe.'
Jun 01, 2006

Creative. I didn't get it though because i could never think of how it all could fit togethor
Jun 07, 2006

boring, uncreative, and very disapointing.
Oct 23, 2006

Very trick. Oh and blackbelt92, quit being a stick in the mud.
Mar 02, 2007

That was cool! Thanks for the neat brain teaser!
May 24, 2007

I thought he would have asked that his mother, wife, and father each receive one wish, but your answer was much more creative and fun! I don't really know if the gold swing is specific enough, since the servant's son could have been at a wealthy man's house with his grandmother, but still, excellent teaser!
Oct 19, 2007

He didnt ask himself what he wanted? Awwww thats sweet of him to think of his family.
Dec 23, 2007

He could have just wished for 3 wishes, wow
Feb 11, 2008

Faaaaabulous teaser! Very creative!

Mar 10, 2008

Easy, but very fun, and extraordinarily well written. Which is a big bonus in my book.
May 14, 2008

I was thinkin he asked for the power to grant wishes.
Jun 23, 2008

$ourDough said that this one was unbelievable! He loved it!

Nov 10, 2008

This is a very nice and tricky question ood jod
Nov 10, 2008

This is a very nice and tricky question good jod
May 23, 2009

Just your Old Run of the Mill Wish Teasers. To swing on a Swing made of gold, does not include the Grandfather's Wish. Perhaps a bar of gold the size of a swing provides much wealth, but the third wish, ah there is a first, second and third wish. Simple: One Wish ~ Allow my Grandmother to see My Son who will become Wealthy. I like that as One Wish, not Three wishes. All wishes must be something he could truly Desire.
Jun 25, 2009

I was thinking something along the lines of "That i have a son who becomes an eye doctor who finds a cure for blind people, resulting in much wealth for our family."

or not
Mar 03, 2012

Yay! I got it right! Another thing the answer could have been was that the servants says, "My mother to see her grandson playing with my father's money."
Aug 24, 2012

My answer: the servant said, "I wish fOr more wishes!!
Jun 21, 2013

I wish my family wasn't so selfish
Nov 27, 2013

I see what you did there....
Jan 22, 2015

I've never liked this one because a) There are many answers that would satisfy those conditions, and b) The answer assumes the master is omnipotent or has supernatural powers, which isn't stated and isn't a valid assumption to make. Yes, he did say "Any wish", but if someone said that to you in real life, you would still assume they only meant something that was within their power.
Apr 26, 2015

LOL. My solution was to just ask for money to solve everything - get Lasik for his mother, get IVF for his wife, and get money for err'body.
May 08, 2015

You know what? The first thing I thought was "I want to be able to manipulate reality." The master did say anything...
Oct 07, 2015

Didn't look at answer yet, and didn't look at other comments.

Answer: He wished for wife to become pregnant with Jesus.

Did I get it?
Oct 07, 2015

Ugggggggh. No, I didn't. But I would think my answer would still work. His wife would have a child, Jesus healed the blind, and the three wise men brought gold to the birth, thus fulfilling all three wishes.
Jul 23, 2016

He could've also wished he was in control of probability.
Probability of children? 0%? Change that to 100!
Probability of certain death? 100%? Change that to 0!
Probability that a billion dollars will just fall out of the sky? 0%? Change that to 100!
Jul 23, 2016

Failz with the last comment, for the probability of certain death that should've been probability of eyesight returning. 0%? Let's change that to 100!
