Mystery
Mystery teasers are little stories where you need to figure out what happened based on the given clues.Mystery
Ray Whitcombe was found dead in his office at his desk. The police have narrowed the suspects down to three people:
Mrs. Barbara Whitcombe, Ray's wife
Mr. Jason McCubbins, Ray's business partner
Mr. Harold Nichols, Ray's best friend
All three visited Mr. Whitcombe the day of his murder, but all three provided the police with stories of explanation as to the reason for their visit.
Police found Mr. Whitcombe with his wrist watch still on his right arm, a torn up picture of his wife laying on the floor beside the trash can, and an ink pen in his right hand. On the desk, the police found a name plate, a telephone that was off the hook, and a personal calendar turned to the July 5th page with 7B91011 written on it. After examining this evidence, the police knew their suspect.

Answer
Jason McCubbins, Ray's business partner. The calendar was the clue to solving this murder. The police realized that since Mr. Whitcombe was wearing his watch on his right arm, he must have been left-handed. Realizing that the number on the calendar was written in a hurry and with his opposite hand, police matched the written number with the months of the year. So the B was an 8, thereby giving us 7-8-9-10-11: July, August, September, October, November. Use the first letter of each month and it spells J-A-S-O-N.

Good one! I didn't get, but I really enjoyed it. Well written!
Wow, very clever! Naturally, I had no idea who did it...
another great one cheese... i got the right answer for the wrong reason though... i assumed the murderer stuck the pen in his hand, thus being the wrong hand because of the watch... this led me to conclude that his business partner was guilty because his wife and best friend would have known he was left-handed... (strange but true, that is how i came up with my answer... please dont laugh at me lol!!!)
that was a great teaser i liked it, into my faves it goes
But how were we supposed to know he was left handed or that it was written in a hurry?
hi that was really great i didntget it though
dogg6pound9...I had the exact same exact thought process. Goodness knows why I overlooked the writing-clearly the most important part. Interesting teaser!
i thought i knew it....
nice teaser...but why didnt he simple write "jason" ?
i liked it but wat was the torn up picture of his wife about
bit of an old trick, 7891011 written on a calendar to mean jason. Liked the b thing though.
Brilliant, well done. I thought this teaser was fab, but a bit easy.
Crazy..
You Copied this from Encyclopedia Brown.
I read that book...

ok, I think the concept was good - however we wouldn;'t know that he was left handed because of the hand on which he wore his watch. I'm right handed, and wear my watch on my right arm... and I'm sure there are other people who do the same... other than that, good teaser
Very clever. I hope they also find a fingerprint or some DNA evidence because I doubt this alone will be enough to convict Mr. McCubbins.
wow i do NOT think like that.
why would he write his name in the initials of the months by numbers? he is asking to be caught...

I noted that he might be left handed, and his penmanship would be bad writing with his right hand, and the B might be an 8. But that is just stupid to write the numbers of the months and then use the first letter of the month to spell Jason. Why didn't he just write Jason? Why did he put it in code? It wasn't fun to me.
If it wasn't in code, it wouldn't be a fun teaser
if he was dying how did he manage to have enough time to think that the first letter of those months spelled Jason, instead of simply using all that time to call the authorities or spell out "Jason" ?
haha.
haha.
too much thinking isnt what makes teasers fun, its the teaser itself.
i loved it. nice teaser "grilledcheese"

hey cams i didnt know u put htis one in its awesome
Great teaser. Well thought out n' loads of fun.
I do have one question though... Why was he writing with his alternate hand, and why hurriedly? Was this his dying message? I felt like that part was sort-of-kind-of (maybe) missing (a little) in the explanation, but it really was a great teaser all and all.
Thanks!

never would have gotten that in a million years... i wear my watch on my right wrist even though I am right-handed.
well maybe he didnt just simply write jason because if jason saw him write it or after he killed him and jason saw it he would have just scrappes it and ripped it up and took it with him.
i wear my watch on my left hand even tho im left handed...
i find it easier.
i find it easier.
how were we supposed to know he was left-handed, it was his personal preference
and not many people could have gotten as far as the months
it was really confusing

Great one.
Still, again, the complexity of the message makes it unreal.
Still, great teaser!

Really hard. Couldn't really understand it
that was hard! i couldnt understand it
i got that one wrong i had his wife.
As yanksgirl said, wearing a watch on the right hand does not mean one is left-handed.
I'm right dominant but I wear my watch on my right hand.

I don't know how Briangle allowed you to get away with this one. A Mystery gives viable clues, and the Mystery that offer clues closely related to the Crime, the suspects, the scene and the weapon make the Mystery great or good, even. The man was left-handed means Nothing to the actual Crime. The victim writing an encrytion means Nothing to the actual crime. There were No Clues, just a story with a punch line. I am sorry. I did enjoy the beginning, the opening, the story yet, no plot existed for me to figure. I give this two thumbs. One up and one down. The Teaser was decently written and held its audience in anticipation of a something, but you failed to deliver, after holding me with the opening story.
Who Knew, there was no mysterious evidence.
I guess you missed the "7B91011" clue...
I love mysteries and I used to work at a bank... so this one was right up my alley.

Hm... It was well-written, certainly, but I agree with the things that other people have been saying. The fact that a code saying "JASON" was the only clue is a little disappointing, and it being in code is strange... I don't agree that Jason would have taken the message only if it said his name; if he saw his victim writing, he would have ended it regardless of what it said.
As a side note, the first thing I would have asked for, as a detective, would be the time of the meetings. If so, whoever said the latest time would be a suspect regardless; either they killed him, or they are lying. It goes in a similar fashion for the other two as well. ...I'll stop rambling now.
Once again, it was well-written, and I tried to decipher the written thing for quite a while~ Be wary of your logic, but nice job overall~

if he had written jason, jason would have found it and probably destroy it..and it would be difficult for him to write jason's name with his right hand coz his left-handed,right?...
Hard! I saw it on about 5 other websites, with just a few different words.
i like my answer much better. I thought the July 5th mean 7 5 on the phone which could stand for "picture killer" by the letters on the phone so this explains the picture on the floor. 7B91011 : 7=R so Ray, B=Barbara, 9=W so Whitcombe. 1011 => made it into 10:11 o'clock 0 second. putting that in a clock make it look like a W which could stand for wife or woman.
got dis 1 wrong!!! good teaser
so its supposed to be: your name is jason. you stabbed the guy and waiting for him to die or sth.. then he starts writing "jason" on his calendar. oh whatever...
I thought it was his wife!
I thought the numbers was their car's numberplate and the rest of the thing on the desk was a distraction!

that was pretty easy
Since when do criminals write their name in code at the crime scene?????
This was a great mystery! So clever!
The idea is interesting but I think it needs work. Presumably the scenario is that the killer came in, and the victim, foreseeing what might be about to happen, doodled the numbers in the hope that the killer wouldn't think it was significant... if he wrote it afterwards while was dying then either the killer is still there in which case the killer will know it must be a message, or the killer has left in which case there is no need for code.
But this interpretation of the numbers is only one possibility.
The fact that the months are in sequence raises further complications.
So I like the idea but perhaps it needs more story to force the right interpretation.
