Ooh, I like this one! It sounds very...poetic, or like something out of a murder story! Nice!

I agree with putummut--and apparently no one has solved it so far. Too esoteric for my taste.

I was also thinking murder, but I was way off base. Good one, it had me scratching my head. Also very poetic. Thanks grilledcheese.

For putummut:

It is, in fact, a riddle. The answer really isn't supposed to be obvious in the teaser. For example, it wouldn't really be interesting if I put, "A metal thing went into a hole in a door handle". Riddles make you think.

I couldn't get it, but it sounded very nice and poetic.

Jan 28, 2008

Ahhhh, but I think I have another answer:

A water faucet: turn to the left and its "on"
turn to the right and a blade
inside cuts the water off

Jan 28, 2008

Is the "blade" the key? I don't think I get it.

Great teaser. I didn't know what it was, but after I read the answer it made sense. Thanks for posting.

That was a very clever teaser. You made it sound like murder, when it wasn't. I thought you worded it very nicely. I didn't think it was too hard though, keep up the fantastic work!

Would a screw work here, with a screwdriver as the knife?

just wondering
phyllisa*us*
Jan 28, 2008

Didn't get it, very clever though
SweetPotatoAus*
Jan 28, 2008

Good stuff...very clever! Hey Bob347 ... that was my answer, but I knew it was wrong because a screw yields either way you turn it.

Hey grilledcheese ... don't waste your time trying to explain poetry to the clueless ... they'll never get it.

Jan 29, 2008

Nice one... it could be other types of locks too, like the type you get on house doors with a push button on one side and a lock on the other
leftclickAau*
Jan 29, 2008

("lock" in the last sentence being the hole for the key... I should have re-read it before pressing submit :-/ )
siskiu*
Jan 29, 2008

i thought it was a screw
dogg6pound9Aus*
Feb 01, 2008

great job once again cheese... at first i thought it was the key to the lock... upon rereading it i realized the key was the dagger, thus the answer having to be the lock itself... love your riddles

A key is not a dagger. I rate this one with a capital F.

Still stumped me. Good one.

Some of you don't belong here. Dagger towards the heart. Key inserted into the lock. It's a riddle, and a darn good one. It's you complainers that dot to go. nuff said.
Babe*
Jan 28, 2014

Most people liked it, but nobody solved it. How great can it be? Poetry was very good, but that is the best I can say!
cutebugAus*
Jan 28, 2014

A key is a dagger? A bit far fetched. Sorry but this was pretty bad.
eighsseAus*
Jan 28, 2014

Don't most key-locks open (yield) when you turn the key left and lock (stand) when you turn it right?
Zykezexus*
Jan 28, 2014

I'll lend poetic license to dagger, yet question what distinguishes the answer from similar mechanisms, i.e. grandfather clock or car door?
