Brain Teasers
On Six Feet
The following riddle was originally printed in 1867 in "London Society".
On six feet, I am a noxious drink,
Of whose effects you shudder to think.
Change only my second foot, and then
You convert me into a horrible den
Where the culprit, who gave the noxious drink,
Awaits the fate of which you shudder to think.

Hint
Try reading it with "letters" instead of "feet".Answer
poison/prison"On six feet" means a six letter word. The first two lines refer to poison. The next two lines refer to prison. The last two refers to where "the culprit" who gave you the poison would go -- prison.

Very nice.... good one.
Fun and interesting teaser. Thanks!
Hmmm. I had to ask for the answer, I do not get the prsion part but maybe I am overthinking this one. Pretty tough but I njoyed it and the answer.
tick, the prison part says if you change the second "foot" (read: letter) in the word "poison", then you can make it prison (which is a "horrible den").
Got it... and thank you for attributing your riddle to its source... too many people don't
Excellent teaser.
I was amazed that I got it. Good one!
Had me puzzled until I read the hint. Good one.
Very good!
And I agree with luckypuppy for attributing your source.

Well, I'm out of step -- I found the word foot highly misleading.
NICE !!!
Interesting but very difficult teaser. After giving it considerable thought I had to give up and look at the answer. Thanks for posting.
I was doing O.K. with understanding the 2nd foot, but for some reason my eyes were playing tricks on me, and I was reading drunk instead of drink. Totally confused me and was unsolveable until I gave up and looked at the answer. Then when I reread it I realized my mistake.
Didn't care much for it so did not try very hard. The feet thing threw me.
I really enjoyed that one-loved the source-made it even more fun to me that I got it-
Got this one without the hint.
Seems like I am in the minority here, having understood out of the gate that "foot" meant letter. Knowing that did not help me though. I gave up and looked at the answer.
It was fun and I also appreciate the fact you cited your source.

The hint was of no help.
catmom- the hint was not, as I figured that before hint lol I don't usually comment (or like ) puzzles like this Either too easy or the reference is to vague or farfetched to figure it out. Yours was hard ( gave up ) but fair, If I had a " thumbs up " emo I'd use it
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got it with the hint.
Nice teaser; solved it without the hint, thanks 4 posting!
I like the attribution that set the historic timeframe. I think this is a clever and fun riddle.
I found this one transparently easy. There are a lot of teasers that everyone else finds simple that stump me, so I'm not claiming brilliance. This one just clicked for me right away. I thought the clues were very direct.
