May 25, 2008

I love the title
May 25, 2008

I loved this one. Gteat work XD
May 25, 2008

Nice teaser. But a motherboard is more important in a computer than a keyboard.
May 25, 2008

Maybe so, but I had the option of using either, and I chose keyboard. Very happy you guys like the teaser! Thanks for posting a comment - and rating it.
May 26, 2008

Title is cute! Some of these were ez, others were hard. Nice job!
May 28, 2008

5 out of fimve fun.

I really liked it. Great title and fun. Just what you need for a great teaser. Nice job.
May 28, 2008

Starboard is the left side of a boat, but, other than that, great teaser!
May 28, 2008

Starboard is the nautical term that refers to the right side of a vessel as perceived by a person on board the ship and facing the bow (front). ...
Jun 09, 2008

Another one found around water is "surfboard." I picked "motherboard" too. Guess it depends how geeky you are.
Jun 26, 2008

Actually, they do use computers nowadays without keyboards, they use on-screen pens, but SourDough has never known a computer NOT to have a Madre-Bordo.

Another twofind was the surfboard!

2 thumbs up!

Jun 26, 2008

As a computer geek I went beyond the obvious answer and thought of motherboard.
Jun 26, 2008

Well that was so easy that I didn't have to waken my brain.
Jun 26, 2008

Nice teaser, Snow. I got them all quite easily, but enjoyed it a lot. Fun teaser. Thanks for posting.
Jun 26, 2008

I too chose mother/ board for #6 1st thing a techy would think of!
Good teaser though, easy peasy
Jun 26, 2008

I got stuck on the last one, took me a while to get it,than it came in a flash. It was a guy I knew in TX ahh Buck
Jun 26, 2008

Glad you are enjoying this teaser. It's fairly easy, thought it would be nice for the kids to do, without too much trouble, but at the same time be enjoyable for the a d u l t s. Thanks for the nice comments - very much appreciated.
Jun 26, 2008

good teaser
Jun 26, 2008

I knew what some of them were, but couldn't think of them, such as SWITCHboard and MORTARboard. I couldn't come up with DIVINGboard or BUCKboard at all. And I chose MOTHERboard, also; even though I was USING a keyboard!
Jun 26, 2008

Good teaser!
Jun 26, 2008

nice. Maybe listing 6 twice would have been cute. Computers need them. Computers need them too.
Jun 26, 2008

I thought of seaboard, not diving board, but it was wrong because it specifically said two words
Jun 26, 2008

I thought #4 was washboard or seabord
Jun 26, 2008

Jun 26, 2008

I too had Wash Board for use in the Wild West and Mother Board for the computer.

Fun teaser.
Jun 26, 2008

Wow, that was a good one! i got all of them except buckboard....the rest were easy, but fun! nice job....
Jun 26, 2008

I thought of 'motherboard' also, but it is NOT because I'm computer savvy (I didn't want to use the word 'geek'). Good, easy teaser.
Jun 26, 2008

Left has four letters and so does Port. Starboard has R's in it to help you remember Right.
Jun 26, 2008

I thought motherboard too.
Jun 26, 2008

Very nice teaser, snow. I'd like to see some harder ones. Good job !
Jun 26, 2008

We have a white board on the side of our frig to take phone messages so my brain couldn't leave that alone (white or memo board). I really enjoyed doing this one!!
Jun 26, 2008

I loved this Snow!
Jun 26, 2008

I also liked this one....But I came up with circuit board instead of mother or key.
Jun 27, 2008

I'm a dental hygienist with a computer in my room; I use the KEYboard all day, yet I chose "motherboard" also! And I thought "boogieboard" for "used around water".
Jun 27, 2008

Great teaser!first reaction about the computer was motherboard and in a sleepy state of mind, about the water guessed overboard lol; completely missed last 2. Still liked the teaser.
Jun 27, 2008

This was really fun
Aug 14, 2008

I also had motherboard for no.6. Never heard of a running board so didn't get that one!
Jun 26, 2011

I, too, came up with motherboard. Also, for "used around water," I chose "surf board" and for "a place to advertise" I first thought of a "message board" (though looking at it now, it's clearly 2 words, not 1). Living in a European city, we don't see many billboards, and the way most people advertise their services (teaching, cleaning, etc) is on message boards in the local shops. Oh well! It was worth a try.
Jun 26, 2011

#4 could also be "seaboard," and I'm sorry, but I also think "motherboard" is a better answer for "computers need them" than "keyboard," since it is possible to operate a computer using only a mouse. And this is just a quibble, but, technically, the use of the word "them" in the clue suggests that in any event the answer should be "*boards," not "*board." The same is true for #5 -- you wouldn't say "Old time cars had two running board," would you?
Jun 26, 2011

I would have to agree with the Motherboard/Keyboard argument. The computer I am on a computer right now that has about 5 different options for input methods other than a keyboard. I am talking to the computer right now as I "type" this.

It was a good idea for a teaser, just too many possible answers for some of them. Surfboard, Wakeboard, Kneeboard, and Boogie Board, could all fit for the water one for instance.
Jun 26, 2011

That was so easy that I got board(bored).
Jun 26, 2011

That was fun. I got boogie board for # 4 and motherboard for number 6. I have worked around boats and starboard is on the right facing the bow. Port side is on the left and is called this because sailors would moor ships on the left side at ports in order to prevent the steering oar from being crushed.
Jun 26, 2011

didn't get buck board, but I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Jun 26, 2011

Buckboard is a 4 wheeled flat cart used back during the western age. Look it up.
Jun 27, 2011

Sorry to say but this one has too many flaws.
As someone above has posted:

I couldn't come up with DIVINGboard or BUCKboard at all. And I chose MOTHERboard, also; even though I was USING a keyboard!

I picked board WALK instead of DIVING board since the clue was so vaguely worded. Maybe around "pools" not just water? Similarly, the old west clue was hardly a clue at all.

WASHboard, SIDEboard, BARNboard, CLAPboard, HEADboard and FOOTboard
are all as likely as BUCKboard.

MESSAGE board, BULLETIN board, SANDWICH board would also do for BILLboard.

Hard but for all the wrong reasons.
Jun 27, 2011

MESSAGE board, BULLETIN board and SANDWICH board would NOT have worked since they are two separate words. But thanks for your criticism anyway.
Jun 27, 2011

A computer also needs a memory board
Jun 26, 2014

snomonster !!!!!

I'm with you thirty giga thousand percent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jun 26, 2014

(careful ... it's a trap)
Jun 26, 2014

This one was very easy, but had multiple answers. Also for the computer could be PBX board and for
# 4 it could be surf board or paddle board. Too many possibilities regardless of which the author chose to use.

Badbunnee02 from yesterday.....
"Perfect examples of continuing efforts to "attack the messenger" (me) and ignore the relevant signs of Braingle's probable early demise.

Actually, I don't really care that most of you don't feel it's a problem. That's a different problem that I'll continue to address.

What I REALLY, REALLY care about is that most of you (except doodlie, YY, Habsie, and one or two more .......

Don't have the guts to admit it.

Ok ... prove me wrong."

BadBunnee02, I will address this topic only once here.
I do not care for the ramblings about your everyday activities polluting this message board. This space was created for comments on the teaser of the day. If you truly care about Briangle's future, you may want to abide by the rules set forth by the creator of this site.

Good day.
Jun 26, 2014

I thought this easy so easy, too easy, really. Then I discovered that I had 3 'wrong'.
#2-bulletin board
#4-surf board
#6-mother board
Jun 26, 2014

I agree 100% with jaycr. BB is a sick person seeking attention on this site. This so called person is the biggest downfall of the comments on the teaser.

I have written directly to the editors to have BB removed from this site , so it can get back to what it is supposed to be.
Jun 26, 2014

I never heard of the last two (2) so couldn't get them all, fun though.
Jun 28, 2014

# 4 could also be "seaboard," the part of a country that is next to an ocean.
Jun 30, 2014

I get my this teaser chosen as Teaser of the Day while on vacation and I come back to nonsense. Comment on the teaser only, take all other jibber jabber outside. The lack of maturity is absurd. Don't like my teaser, please say so as simply and shortly as you can. Don't like Braingle? Take it to Jake. . . . If I can get some of these rude and unimportant posts removed, I will. I will take this up with the other moderators of braingle. Thanks a lot BB.
Jun 30, 2014

I would like to ask all that are willing to click "offensive to all of BB's posts. This will help stop these ridiculous posts. He/she is doing this to many teasers within the comment section.
Jun 30, 2014

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made the "offensive" list.

Look for "find bad comments" to the left on your screen and click it.

Do you people have ANY idea of what you have done???

You have just given "life" to some of my best stuff.

By clicking "offensive" and getting it on the "bad" (oooooooaaaaaoooooo) list you are generating MORE readership.

People are NOT going to "go back" and look for the good stuff.

No ... they can just wait for the paranoid to do it for them.

And then leisurely peruse it as the "bad" stuff.

Now ... as if THAT was not cause enough for hilarity .....

(excuse me whilst I wipe my eyes - laughing so hard - so I can see to type)

You are NOW asking the question ....

"is this offensive comment offensive"

duuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!

College Beginning Stat (statistics) 101; pages 44-87;

"Refrain from contaminating results by excessively biasing the responses of subjects" .....

OK. let's get serious. It's not going to make a whit of dif.

As I've said in prior threads, I'm leaving the boards for 90 days (except to appear if I get a Teaser posted) just to see if BIG BAD-A** BB02's absence will cause the comment rate to ...

Any bets ..

Bye, bye ... er uh .. "goombye" ...

See you In the Fall.

Jun 30, 2014

a few more things I forgot to add ....

(still in re the "offensive" comment)

- Obviously it's taken out of context.

(page 62 in the textbook) : "Retain as much situational and circumstantial detail as you can to give subject an opportunity to "see" the measurement".

Also (page 72 I believe) -

"Don't 'wash out' the middle ground in your response scale."

This means ... (in re our question above) DON'T GIVE JUST THREE OPTIONS. Few people feel PRECISELY neutral and, if you give a truly "neutral" position many people will simply NOT rate it at all.

FIVE positions is good. SEVEN is better.

The GOOD stuff, though, is the clarity (here) of the extreme positions; "offensive", "not offensive"

The haters will LOVE this. They will probably strike the check box with such a vengeance as to break the tips of their digital pencils.

The "lovers" ... on the other hand. Hmmmm ... "BadBunny 'lovers' " ....

Not likely.

So ......... although the scale is nicely "bipolar" (ring a bell?) ... there ought to be a better (more attractive) alternative than a "not" ... as in "not" offensive.

"nice" might be nice.

ERGO ... we have all the markings of a LOADED poll ... or ... (as the pros call it informally ...) ....

"Write it the way you want 'em to answer it."

Politicians call that "push" polling.

Works well for them. Works well for Braingle.

AND ....

I lied.

I am going to remain here for a few days ... inserting this stuff on polling here and there .... 'til we see the result of the BB02 BAD A** BUNNY COUNT.

but I will not be commenting anywhere else.

Jun 30, 2014

I will be contacting the owner to get this stopped.
Jul 01, 2014

I might get booted from Braingle.

But you won't forget I was here.

And when what I predicted comes true, you will have learned it TWICE !!

So ... (all together now) ...

How do you spell ...

... very GOOD !!!

Jul 03, 2014

what exactly was the "Saturday Night Massacre"?
Jun 26, 2017

I got "seaboard" for #4, and "motherboard" for #6, both of which answers seem quitre apt.
Jun 26, 2017

Nice teaser thanks, although there did appear to be some multiple answers, and here in Aus. I've never heard of "Mortarboard"!
Jun 26, 2017

Computers need a morherboard.
Jun 26, 2017

I don't even know what a Mortarboard or Buckboard are!
Jun 26, 2017

I came up with boogie board for #4. Too many possible answers with the description that was given.
Jun 26, 2017

5/8; Fun and entertaining teaser. Never heard of buckboard or runningboard. Heard of the term Mortarboard but did not know what it actually is.
Jun 26, 2017

Nice one.. I suggest 2 alts.. #4 surfboard And #6 motherboard...I.E. ' bunnynut looking for attention, need to find something real to interact with, and less stalking of internet
Jun 26, 2017

Enjoyed this quiz. I agree with the motherboard being a better answer for the computer.
