Jul 19, 2002

its 1.99$ and not 1.99 lol
blinkgoddess182
Jul 19, 2002

I thought it was a sprinkler, but hey, a straw works too. I wouldn't pay two bucks for a straw though ;)
Eckarah
Jul 19, 2002

Could be a squirt gun too! Then the price of $1.99 would make more sense!!!
Bobbrt**
Jul 19, 2002

Missie, are you trying to be my new best friend? This is at least the second time you've defended one of my teasers. Thanks. Oh, by the way - to all of you who are hung up on the price: the point here is that the ad agency is making the straw sound like a mystical, wonderful device, and can therefore over-charge for it. Personally, I think that they could charge a lot more than $1.99 for an anti-gravity device.
flynn
Jul 19, 2002

No! No! This one's a con! My first reaction was that it was a straw, but figured that the $1.99 disqualified that!
AbdulAziz
Jul 20, 2002

Why did you use the word command? But I agree that a straw can cost $1.95. Straw with special design possible.
micromum
Jul 20, 2002

The straw might not be worth $1.99 but the teaser sure was...well done!

Jul 21, 2002

Jul 20, 2003

Personally, I liked the teaser, and enjoyed it. Simple yet effective. I agree that because it was a "gravity defying" device, they could over charge it. Nice one!

ez but fun.
(user deleted)
Jul 20, 2003

pretty good.. but i think it can be a lot of things too.. for example... a bathroom on the second level of a house.. the water has to go UP the pipes to reach the faucet... another example.. one of those little waterfall decorative sculptures... the pump makes the water go UP.. then it trickles down...see it could be lots of things.. funny how i thought of all of those...but didnt think STRAW!!! lol... g*job anyhow... *smile*

that is just weird! i still don't really get it! oh well! i don't like these kinds of teasers.
BrenBeadSP**
Jul 21, 2004

I recently bought several boxes of straws for a project, and I can say that $1.99 is about average. Remember, it's a company advertising their product. So it makes sense that the $1.99 fits this teaser. I enjoyed it, thanks.

Apr 08, 2007

Kind of lame. ) The only reason it's not totally lame is because I got it on the first guess. Way too easy. Others made the mistake of letting the $1.99 price be the focus.

"ANY" LIQUID? A STRAW AND MOST ACIDS WON'T WORK NOR WILL A WIDE VARIETY OF CHEMICALS. SO I THINK STRAW IS OUT. OR CHANGE THE TEASER DESCRIPTION TO REFLECT THE FOREGOING.
cloughmeAws*
Apr 08, 2007

Excellent! Very cleverly written!
PhalanxAlu*
Apr 08, 2007

Didn't think of a straw either 'cause I thought that 1,99 $ would be too expensive...but either you buy "normal" straws in a pack of 50...or as someone already mentioned a special design straw... with loops or helixes...

Excellantly written for the item involved. And yes, they do come in packages of 20, 50, 100+. As far as other liquids, one could be stretching it with the additional comments. Keep up the creative work!

Apr 08, 2007

How come everyone is smarter than me. I didn't know that it was a straw? For a weird reason I thought that it might be those water noodles you blow into for water to go out. well...That was fun. I liked reading that.

thanks

Sort of silly, straws don't cost $1.99.
jabdrAus*
Apr 08, 2007

The simpler, the harder. It's what we all do, look for the clever, unexpected answer. Then the answer usually fits that description..but too simple.....to get... Loved it!!

Apr 08, 2007

Boxes of straws can be $1.99 so deal with it! Boodler, I thought it was lots of fun but - easy! Thanks, I needed a boost to my ego by guessing the right answer.
ShikamaruAus*
Apr 08, 2007

it could be a few other things too, and that IS a pretty expensive straw!
OldChinaHand**
Apr 08, 2007

It's the packing not the product that has the value. Well done.

And by the way, Imurray, any liquid, even acid, can be siphoned through a glass straw.
ejhops*ca*
Apr 09, 2007

Very cute teaser, really had fun with it. And you mentioning that the ad agency was trying to make the product sound better, and yet still had a decently low price gave it away for me. How could an ad agency make crazy profits from 1.99 unless it was crazily cheap to begin with
Great job

THIS IS NOT A BRAIN TEASER!!! I'm lucky if 5-10% of the things on this site actually fall into that category.
j9mattfieldAus*
Apr 19, 2007

I enjoyed your teaser...thank you! I also thought "Not available in any zoo" could be in the ad. (In the US at least.)
precious1026Aus*
Aug 24, 2010

You see what happens when all people view the world from the same perspective, most peopl got the answer correct.

And the Teaser was actually very good. I don't think it fits in language. More like logic or trick seems more suitable for this Teaser. Good Work.
craniacAus*
Aug 24, 2010

Didn't remember this from 2007. This time around, I guessed the answer was a siphon, so I'm giving myself 75% credit, since a straw is in fact a kind of siphon.
elentirAus*
Aug 24, 2010

I have to agree with lmurray on this one. You are not going to be able to use a straw with all liquids. One of the primary reasons I went with a pump.
kwelchansAus*
Aug 24, 2010

$1.99 would be expensive for a single, disposable straw, but it's reasonable for a box of straws or one of those special twisty straws.
omasAau*
Aug 24, 2010

the teaser would have been much better if the price said 10 cents rather than $1.99.

I like it other than that!

Aug 30, 2013

Very clever and I assumed it meant a box of straws. That is the way the ones I buy come. I believe I pay $1.49 so yes they are selling at a bigger profit. Comments are so funny! I enjoy them the most!
spikethru4*au*
Aug 30, 2013

I think the $1.99 price tag is fully justified, considering its phenomenal gravity-defying properties!
HABS2933Aca*
Aug 30, 2013

I think it is amusing that people are hung up on the $1.99 being too expensive for a straw, yet others are suggesting such answers as a faucet in a upstairs bathroom but have no issues with the fact that those would cost MUCH MUCH more (we are renovating right now and a new faucet set is well over $100.00.

I too assumed it was $1.99 for a box of straws, not just one. I do like the suggestion of it being one of those crazy straws they make for kids though. But I am not sure $1.99 would be enough to buy one of those
