Defining the boundary
Between this and that place

It's pretty clear that I'm
An open-and-shut case

Sometimes a metaphor
For opportunity

I could be vital to
Your exit strategy

To a single axis
My movement is confined

Your privacy is that
For which I've been designed

What am I?

Nice one but really easy.

Agreed... it was a little too easy.

It was pretty easy but a nice attempt. My only other comment is that a door is not always on hinges, and does not always swing. There are doors that slide open, such as a patio door or a pocket door, and rotating doors that do not hinge.
Overall, I liked the teaser.
