Two Part Challenge
Series teasers are where you try to complete the sequence of a series of letters, numbers or objects.
I had a lot of fun putting together the following list of words. Can you figure out the rule I used to develop the list? Once you do, have fun creating your own list!
mount, right, left, roll, mote, lick,
lass, over, rate, aunt, rill, arch,
oral, ever, pine, rice, tip, each,
team, rash, sage, ouch, edge, ray,
earn, any
HintThe order matters. Count the words.

Answer
Each 3 to 5 letter word, when preceded by sequential letters of the alphabet, will form new words:
amount, bright, cleft, droll, emote, flick,
glass, hover, irate, jaunt, krill, larch,
moral, never, opine, price, q-tip, reach,
steam, trash, usage, vouch, wedge, x-ray,
yearn, zany

| Very tough. I needed the hint and even then took awhile to get it. Anyone come up with another choice for Q? |

| Great teaser! By the way Flipper, a Q-tip is a brand name for cotton swabs, the things we use to clean our ears. I think Q-tip may be the only Q word that words since all the english words I can find that start with Q have vowels for the 2nd and 3rd letters and non of the words that start with U have a vowel as the 2nd letter. Maybe someone has a better dictionary than I do and can find one that I missed. |

| Good one. But wouldn't any Q word have worked here? Am I missing something? |
stm8r1
Mar 21, 2003
| Codammanus, any Q word wouldn't work because the remaining letters once the Q is removed has to be a word also. That was the trick of this teaser. |

| Don't know about about cotton swabs but on the end of a billiard cue is a cue-tip. Good puzzle - what else can you do with a Q?(lol) |

| I think qat is a type of bush or plant. Anyways, the teaser was very clever, except that there is another similar one (called moral friend), which made this one easier to guess. I'm impressed that you came up with words for every letter. |

| Briliant concept. I love a good chalenge but, it sure took me a while. Somehow i thought of counting the words, before i read the hint where you underlined the fact that order matters. I was thriled when I managed to finaly solve it, as i really had fun trying my hand at this one. Keep them coming! |

| Very original and I got it right, but then doubted myself when I saw two letters added to rate. That threw me off and made me think I was wrong when I was right. Rather good though and I like the suggestion to create your own, a double gift in a way. Thanks! |

| Great teaser. Not super easy at all. I really struggled and in the end had to look to figure out the answer. |

| Excellent teaser. Totally stumped me, but when I saw the answer I was ready to kick myself for not getting it. That's an excellent brain teaser by my way of thinking.
By the way, though I don't have a problem with Q-tip, I would have used at=Qat for the Q word. It's a variation of Kat or Khat, which is a plant that is chewed like tobacco or steeped as a tea in the middle east for it's stimulating properties. I only know this because I found it as a great way to get rid of a lingering Q in scrabble |

| One of the best I've seen. Come on people, let go of the Qtip thing. It's even in the dictionary. Try cleaning out your ears sometime if you don't know what a Qtip is. I think that is a better known word than Qad or Qaid.
By the way, Murray, "Entertain the kids on a rainy day?" come on. I want to meet your kids then. |

| Vasha - There are 26 words in the list. Add "A" to the beginning of the first word in the list, "B" to the second word, "C" to the third word, "D" to the fourth word, etc., until you get to the end, where you add "Z" to beginning of the 26th word. |

| did you mean Harsh?
Well, I guess this is basic to some part of speech, or English grammar, or Spelling, yes perhaps Spelling. I found this Teaser difficult. The Explanation is always difficult, it says one thing but seems to mean something entirely different. I loved this teaser. It keeps you learning, laughing and lingering in Language concepts. |
