That STE- should be STEM, STEP or STEW. I think STEP is the most probable.

O-T must be out.
-EE-S is most probably be feels, deems, seeks, seems, heeds, needs.
-OR-- might be coral, corps, force, forge, forte, forum, gorge, horde, horse, Koran, lorry, moral, Norse, north, torch, torso, words, works, world, worry, worst, worth. Judging by the theme of the quote I think it's probably 'world' or 'worry'.

'IS AFRAID TO FACE THE WORLD' is obvious.

'DA-' is either DAD or DAY.

'-EEDS' should be 'NEEDS'. The only other possibilities are HEEDS and FEEDS.

It looks like a rather obscure quote.

That is correct. That quote is from the Western movie Firecreek. Funny, I just saw an advertisement for that movie with the quote in the advertisement about 10 minutes ago. Freaky.
