The Summer Olympics are starting Friday, July 27, 2012. Are you planning to watch? Do you have a favorite event? Do we have any Braingler's going there to watch or that live nearby?
Feel free to use this topic to talk about anything having to do with the Olympics; opening ceremonies, the events, impact on the host city, local athletes to keep an eye on, anything you like.

I personally like that it is being held in London. As a person of English decent, i am glad it is being held in my ancestral homeland. Plus, i think that it being held in London, it will be a lot fairer vs it being held in Beijing a few years ago (sorry to all those brainglers who are Chinese). I noticed that most of the gold went to China. I mainly think, just my opinion, that China probably threatened their participants to win at all costs. Plus, after it was all said and done, China was caught red handed with allowing underage kids participate in the Olympics.

Although I don't like the Olympics, I will be watching this one simply because it is being held in London. I'll mainly watch for the opening. Sport isn't my thing, but I'd like to see England's festivities.

Oh yeah, it's been such a time but there was that Doctor Who episode about the 2012 Olympics. Looks like there will be some missing people reports then: give or take a stadium.

I don't really like the summer Olympics. They aren't as fun for me. I guess I like the track events best, but I like the winter sports better. Except ice skating. That's boring.

Sarcastic is the one word that defines me.

Lostfan do you swim?
My daughter is a swimmer, so we'll be watching those events very closely. There is a local girl swimming in a couple of events. Her name is Rachel Bootsma.
I enjoy the gymnastics, it is amazing what they can do. Go ahead, try to do an iron cross.

I wont be watching the olympics im already very sick of it being shoved down my throat every five minutes ive never been interested in it so having the media and everyone talking about it all the time does get very annoying. Nothing interests me in the olympics whatsoever, never has and i really doubt it ever will. Id much rather be out enjoying myself than watching it if i do go london in the summer it will be to go to camden i feel so at home there i want to go london dungeons and tombs again i love it there its AMAZING!!! id recommend anyone to go to the dungeons and tombs, unless you got a weak heart and are easily scared. But anyway back to the olympics, it will however help the economy with people all around the world visiting london and it has provided a lot of jobs, so there is definately a positive its definately a good thing for people in England who enjoy sports and the olympics, but for someone like me itll just be like any other summer cant wait for the summer hope the weather gets better though

Gee Lostfan, you sit over here watching the Olympics on TV and comment that alot of the guys are hot! And Charlottes-Odd complains about being in England with a lot of those hot guys. But unknown to us, perhaps she already has a beau. Even at my old age I do admire the fine bodies these athletes have developed - both male and female. These people have worked their bippies off to reach the fine form they are in and I have to give them kudos for their hard work and devotion.

I personally enjoy the swimming and diving, but most of all I appreciate the gymnastics being female of course I love the female floor exercises, but I also am thrilled to see the guys work the rings and demonstrate the Iron Cross. This all comes from some one who had asthma all my life and my gymnastics were before we had the rescue inhalers so I got thrilled seeing someone climb to the top of the gym on a knotted rope.

I started watching the Olympics the year that Cassius Clay won the heavyweight boxing contest for the US. He later became Mohammad Ali, so maybe you can figure how long ago me and my daddy sat and watched that. TV was just a new thing in our home, but I don't think my dad ever did miss one of Ali's fights after he turned professional. Last time I saw him was when he watched his daughter on Dances with the Stars. Remember who wins - and 50+ years, see if any of the winners have become as well known "All Over The World" as the man who could "Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee!"

Well just going by the fact that the transport people in London have theratened to strike on the day before the opening is a sign of trouble looming, don't you think?

Anyway, I think the whole concept is so far from the original idea.... it is way too politically correct....
the fun has gone out of it.. here in Australia anyway...

I see where you're coming from snappy, but the athletes are still training hard to represent their country. And you gotta enjoy the opening ceremonies.... right?

I'm surprised not too many people seem interested in the Olympics this time around. For those that are, the opening ceremonies are tonight.

Well I thought it was a nice ceremony. I didn't see the last one in Beijing, so I can't compare, but I liked the historical take it had celebrating the great British industrial machine, Britain's rich history of literature, and a good variety of music that the U.K. churned out since London last hosted the Olympics. I think that was well done and fun to watch. And London's the first city to host the Olympics for three times, eh? Pretty cool.

Not being a fan of sport, though, I'll be back to watch the ending later on. I hope those watching will enjoy it though and enjoyed the opening. It's currently morning in London so I wonder if they've already started playing.

I am liking what i am seeing in the Men's Swimming. Hopeful that Michael Phelps will win gold again. Also liking Women's Basketball pitting America vs. Croatia.

The men's gymnastics team competition was heartbreaking on several counts tonight. Poor Japanese dude (then not so poor...), poor choking Americans, poor Brits and Ukraine on an emotional roller coaster.
