People post the strangest things on social media. A couple of months ago someone posted about their parent dieing and how they were there for their last breath. Now I see a picture of a older teenager, crying, holding a pet after it has been euthanized. Is it just me or does that seem a little too personal to throw out on a social network? Why would someone do that? Would you?

I would not do that.
But it reminded me of something that greatly disturbed me. One of my facebook friends posted pictures of her grandmother's funeral, complete with shots of her smiling and posing with the casket. WHY??
I guess the ubiquity of social media lessens peoples' sense of privacy.

The social media is a threat to the sanity of all people. It seems as though there are people out there who want everyone to know all about their personal lives, without thinking about the consequences or their reactions.
Facebook is a site where people can post the most random things, or their most personal secrets. Things like this can eventually lead to their death, especially with a public profile.
Twitter is becoming a contradiction to its' purpose.

People add random people, post private things, and forget that the aforementioned random people can see the posts. The things that pop up on my news feed from random people I barely know are quite interesting, actually...
EDIT: The personal stuff doesn't bother me nearly as much as the trivial stuff. Supposedly inspirational quotes, idealistic relationship advice, bathroom mirror pictures, dumb "witty" puns, grammatically incorrect song lyrics, those weird sentence fragment statuses that start with a semicolon... really, get a life.

As much as I dislike social media, in general, I'm not worried about the degradation of society because of it. (Well, at least not because of a lack of privacy.) I wouldn't be too personal, but I might post a small bit of text if any of my relatives died or something serious happened. If the site was made to be used to communicate with friends and family, then communicate I would. Nothing too embarrassing, nothing I wouldn't dream of doing in everyday life, but maybe a bit more open in a more informal setting.
There have always been exhibitionists, the internet merely allows them to show and tell more than ever before. And, if they know what they're doing, then it's a kind thing, to invite someone into such an emotional event. If you choose not to get involved then it's your choice. I mean, they often have stories on the news of people mourning a loss. Is Facebook that much worse? If anything it should be more private than public media at least. Yet I doubt many look at sobbing people they don't even know and think "they must be out of their minds to showcase themselves like that." Maybe it's actually more bizarre because we know the people online at least enough to find their news too private a matter, while the news is more impersonal and more universal? I find the contrast a bit odd, really.
Personally, I find privacy an interesting topic in general, as I am for pretty much a bubble existence, to keep oneself not too loud to hear and not talk too openly, and yet I am for speaking bluntly when the time comes. Perhaps these people just need that much support? If that is the case, then I support their decision and wish my condolences. Emotions is one thing, however, too much photographs is probably one thing I'd be against for not being private enough.  I'm a bit out of my depth here, to be honest.
