1-Are voluntary
2-Go in knowing the wars are pointless
3-Go in knowing they could die
4-Go in knowing they will be responsible for death

Edited by Mod bradon182001 as an unnecessary adjective.

Not all wars are pointless. Most are, but may I point out that defense of a country is necessary to the well-being of a peoples. Although many wars we've been in, such as Vietnam and World War I were unnecessary wars, World War II was entirely necessary. If we hadn't stepped in to World War II, Japan would have destroyed us.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." -Romans 12:2

My original post had the word murderous edited out. I think Bradon missed the entire point of the post.

Extremeblueness, to be more clear, I use "modern" as a synonym for "contemporary", not to denote the military of the early to middle 20th century, but instead the past 10-20 years alone. Our military's purpose at this point is to advance our economic and cultural expansion into unwilling nations via violent attacks.

While I agree with your sentiments suggesting the American military is mostly a tool for spreading American imperialism, I don't think it's fair to say it's the 'troops' who are in anyway responsible for this. If the government would invest even a fraction of the money they do on the military on things like education, social programs, healthcare, etc, maybe people wouldn't feel compelled to join the military.

Also, there are more than a few military groups against the unjustified wars being waged by the government.... IVAW is one group that comes to mind.
