Love the show. Michael Scott is THE perfect moron. My favorite is when Jim & Pam mess with Dwight's head: Moving his desk an inch a day just to see how long it would take him to figure it out, telling him he can purchase a 'gaydar' device on line & sending him to a fake website to further their prank, etc... This is one of the few shows out there that makes me laugh out loud!

Yess there is a topic for The Office.
I think the UK version is pretty funny but the US version is better. Steve Carrell is really just too good.
EDIT: btw That's what she said

Me too, Ricky Gervais is awesome.

I may be biased, but I'd agree. Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman are fantastic too.

I went to the local gardening store and a man in an orange uniform asked me if I wanted decking. Luckily I got the first punch in, and that was the end of that. |

No way. Gervais doesn't do it nearly as well as Carrell. I've only watched a few UK episodes (first season) and he just couldn't do it like Micheal Scott. The UK version of Dwight (Gareth Keenan) is just not good at all
Not to mention Tim and Dawn (UK version of Jim and Pam) don't have as much chemistry which is a key aspect of the US series.

I watched this show once, so maybe it wasn't one of the better ones, but I didn't really like it. Btw, this was the American version.

Pfft, no, they totally stole the idea from the US so it's not as good!
Yeah... sarcasm
I think it's hard for people used to one version to enjoy the other. For me, I prefer the US version, because I bleed red white and blue.
The above post should be taken with 100% sarcasm. |

The US version lacks a very important element of the UK series... Subtlety. Tim and Dawn have much more chemistry... it's just more "subtle". And it's just as integral to the story. And Gareth is much better than Dwight. Seriously.
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the US version. It's just not as good as the UK.

I think subtlety only works with certain types of humor, and not as well as others. The Office usually has a more silly humor rather than intellectual/sarcastic humor which is what subtlety works well with.
When I see Jim and Pam in comparison to Tim and Dawn, the actions/conversation are more easily flowing and casual than Tim and Dawn. For example (one part I remember) Dawn beginning to brush Tim's hair before he goes into the office. It's just awkward and it doesn't work, in my opinion at least.
I think Gareth is just a bad actor but that's probably because I'm used to seeing the personality type with Rainn Wilson. Plus I think the Dwight/Michael relationship is also important to the overall humor of the series.

I loooove The Office. It's hilarious. Few things on television make me laugh at loud but that sure does. I've never watched the UK version. I probably will someday. But the US version is great and I love it. I love most of Steve Carrel's work and he does a great job on The Office. I think Michael, Dwight, and Jim/Pam really make the show but each of the great characters contribute something. I love how many of the actors are also the writers for the show. I think that is what really seperates it from many other sitcoms.
