2008 Baseball Season

Are you into the season yet? Are you enjoying the surprises (Tampa, Florida, KC all doing well and Detroit looking horrible)?

What is your take on the current state of baseball?

Not meant to be a favorite team fest but more of a early season evaluation overall.

Well the Marlins are my favorite team. So it will be hard for me to hold back.
Honestly I think everything is up for grabs. A ton of people are saying things like: "Well the Marlins have only won vs. under .500% teams." but if you look it up, if you take out their losses and wins against us, they have an over .500% record.
My point is that we are doing great, we have just made our best start in franchise history. (even better than our two World Series seasons) So I would have to say, with the way our starters are holding teams, the way our batters are getting runs, and the way our bullpen is dominating, we could very well go far. But like I say, it is only the first of the season, there are 162 games for a reason. Plus, some of our worst players in the past (hitting wise) are putting up great numbers, Hanley Ramirez is putting up all-star numbers, Dan Uggla is on a tare. The Marlins are off to a great start, if we can keep it up we will be hard to beat.

Okay, well I have waited ever since 2003 to post that...so there it is. I hope you don't mind I only posted about Florida, but I really don't keep up with the American league, I know a bit about how the teams are doing, but I keep up mainly with the National league.

I agree that the Marlins have been a pleasant surprise and don't mind seeing them do well. I don't think they'll sustain it though. The Mets and Phillies have good teams.

The Red Sox seem to come up with these young pitchers that kill you. It's amazing! The Yankees are struggling. I like that but, i wonder what is wrong with their model. They've let their pitching staff decline over the years. I'm hoping Tampa isn't just a joke - except when the play the Red sox!

Well, seeing as I must support my area team so I'm not shunned, and it's the only team I know, I like the Rangers. I think they just lost a playoff game or something, but that's sorta bad. My dad's planning on taking us to a game. He's trying to get tickets from my grandparents, who know the Rangers pitcher

I'm glad the Yankees are struggling too, tommysmo, but I'm a Pirates fan, so I guess I don't have any room to criticize!

That's awesome. Like if you walked up to a player, and asked what he did for a living, he could say 'I'm a pirate'. That's awesome

Go RED SOX!

At the beginning of the season, there was all this hype in Detroit about the Tigers. Nothing happened. They don't have the pitching.

Who has? Anyways...:

That is somewhat true, the Tigers have a ton of great pitchers, they just aren't pitching like they should be. They are turning into the Yankees, which isn't a good thing.

That's about the size of it. Very frustrating for the fans here.

Well, Tigers fans have every right to be frustrated. They should have beaten the Cardinals in the series 2 years ago and couldn't close the deal.

White Sox fans should be pleased. Looks like they've got the fire in their bellies agian. The Indians, on paper, are probably the strongest team in teh AL along with the Angels.

The Texas Rangers are terrrible. That's the nicest thing I can say.

A couple stats to run by.

After we (Marlins) beat the Diamond backs last night that become the first time they have been swept all year. Their road record was 8-1 until we swept them in three games. It became the second time this year that they have gone on a three game losing streak.

Also they struck out 35 times. Which means our pitching is getting about 12K's a game. Which is really good.

We beat them in score 3 runs to 10.

And one of the biggest things, our three starters, (who went 19 innings overall) only gave up 4 walks!

And yet everybody is still giving us the "lets talk in a few months".

P.S. The Diamondbacks used to be the number one team in baseball...until we beat them...now the Red Sox are number one.

Go Red Sox!

Over 162 games, injuries happen. Streaks come and go. Confidence waxes and wanes. It's a long season, Dontrelle. I wish you well but, I've seen many teams start hot and lose at the end. being a Red Sox fan, I've personally experienced the agony too many times to speak about it.

Mets fans gotta be disappointed right now. The Braves beat the doodoo out of them!

I am going to talk about all of the hot starts that I know.

Florida had a hot start, but it's not for real. They have already started fading.

Philadelphia is doing great, and all I can say is hope they stop soon, because I'm a Mets fan.

Chicago is long overdue. This will continue and they will make the playoffs this season.

Tampa Bay actually has a very good team this year and I am 50/50 on this one. I just don't know if they can go all the way.

Now to rank the bad starts:

The Mets need to step it up and start hitting. They have been pitching pretty good, but they have to step up the hitting if they want to win the division.

San Diego is just not good at all. Really nothing to say.

The Rockies should be doing better. After all, they are the defending N.L. champs!

The Yankees need to step it up. They need better pitching, though they have been on a roll lately.

Detroit should definitely be doing better, although I think they will start playing better and win the division.

Seattle is plain awful, pretty much like San Diego.

I hope you liked my analysis on the good and bad starts to the season.

As for the Marlins:
Last 10: 5-5
Home: 22-15 Road: 14-15
Runs Scored: 324
Runs Against: 325

So we are holding pretty even all over. Other than our road record, but we have 81 games at home, so we can hope for a winning season.
Considering we STILL have some of our best players on the DL, and we have back ups, back ups rookies starting they are holding their weight.

hehe, everyone said the Marlins are going to fail, but no matter what we keep rolling like a stone.

And to this point we are only 3 games out of our division, and no one has put up wild-card ratings yet, so we will have to wait and see. Don't forget that the Marlins have NEVER won the division, but the World Series twice, in only two trips.

I went to the Met game last night and they won! So my record for Mets' games is: 13-1-1

You should call the Wilpons and ask for a job as their lucky charm!

I'm going to see SF at Mets on July 10th. It's an afternoon game.

Red Sox took 2 of 3 in Philly without Ortiz, Ramirez, and Youkilis. Beckett didn't even pitch. I hope the rest of the league is better or expect another AL World Series winner. It may or not be the Sox but, it looks like the AL is stronger again.
